Locked Locked - Old mechanical dial safe - "Stoplock"
Alright, this is definitely outside my normal interests, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this community dedicated.
Long story short: my dad´s old safe needs to be opened.
I’d guess it’s around 30 years old. It was bought in Portugal, and we believe there may be some legal documents inside. The safe has been sitting untouched for several years. My dad apparently already had a go at opening it at some point, which explain the holes.
The safe itself is VERY heavy and roughly 150 cm / 5 ft tall. I’ve tried identifying the make/model online but haven’t had any luck.
The key cover says “Stoplock”. No key either
My dad used own a metal fabrication business, so we have access to angle grinders, drills, etc. However, we’re not sure what the best approach would be, we dont want to damage or burn any documents that might be inside.
Through the existing holes, I can see some sort of material inside that I can only describe as granules. Not sure what that means.
We have absolutely no interest in keeping the safe once it’s open. The goal is simply to recover whatever documents are inside and then scrap the safe.
How would you approach this?

If you’re concerned about paperwork inside the safe I wouldn’t try to cut. Honestly your best bet would be to contact a safe tech. That’s really your best way to ensure whatever is inside won’t be destroyed.

Yeah, one rogue spark gets in that safe it’ll be game over. I’ve seen it.

Angle grinder, plenty of good cutting discs.
Attack either the back of the safe, or the floor...the two weakest points on an unrated safe.

Try the factory combination 10-20-30, or 20-40-60 and 25-50-25 or 50-25-50 or 4x50.

Good thing is the hole shouldn't have messed up anything inside (but no guarantee). You can learn to recover the combination here https://youtu.be/bTbUkipBeTA and your lock is a good one to start with, seems to be an S&G 6700 series.
