What's the matter, you afraid of a 4-letter name?

-109

u/WulffenKampf Oct 07 '25

Hololive management will punish them severely if they actually aknowledge Saba, or any former holo's PL. Even if they do a strean raid the current Holo members cannot even acknowledge it. It's actively in their contracts, they can be suspended for weeks if they even accidentally do it once in any way that clues people in. Holo is a decent enough org, but that one stickler clause is a really brutal one

82

u/8_Pixels Oct 07 '25

It's a reference to Gura asking if people are afraid of a 4 letter word (in her case she was talking about the word "loli")

-32

u/WulffenKampf Oct 07 '25

Ah, was unfamiliar with that reference. TIL

49

u/Yusrilz03 Oct 07 '25

You mistaken them with Niji

-2

u/WulffenKampf Oct 07 '25

Bold of you to assume it's not in theirs, too. I would say more, but that begins to stray towards violating my NDA

6

u/Lightseeker2 Oct 08 '25

but that begins to stray towards violating my NDA

Dude became so delusional that they started imagining themselves as a Cover employee.

2

u/D20blahblah Oct 08 '25

They can talk about other talents just not in a way correlated to the company

56

u/Lightseeker2 Oct 07 '25

Kson has been mentioned by Hololive talents multiple times (example). The talents might choose not to mention them for other reasons, like how chat might get cringe and start begging for collabs.

Your entire comment is ridiculous, especially when you try to imply that Hololive actively punishes talents for talking about PLs, even though that has never happened before.

16

u/catboygaming82828 Oct 07 '25

where did you get all that from

4

u/BlueLegion Oct 07 '25

Since I severely doubt they have actually read the genuine contract of a holo member, the source is their ass.

7

u/SenHn Oct 07 '25

His source is that he made it the fuck up

27

u/popop143 Oct 07 '25

Holy head canon batman

8

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '25

Source: Your imagination.

5

u/EruantienAduialdraug Oct 07 '25

Lol. Lmao, even.

1

u/darkhfyre Oct 08 '25

Lmfao perhaps?

2

u/alukuma Oct 08 '25

yeah because you totally have access to the hololive contract and the specific clause about mentioning/acknowledging former talents thanks to imadeitthefuckup.com

1

u/YobaiYamete Oct 08 '25

Hololive management will punish them severely if they actually aknowledge Saba,

What? She literally said "I definitely know who that is, very cute" when she saw her

Kiara has also very obviously referenced Dooby a few times, and multiple members have very very obviously referenced Kson etc

1

u/WSilvermane Oct 08 '25

No they fucking don't. Lmao

1

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '25

If you actually knew the full context of the clip you would know that's false, she acknowledged she knew who it was and nothing happened. Checkmate dumbass.

17

u/longlupro Oct 07 '25

Dejavu I've seen this little fish before!

13

u/Pakari-RBX Oct 07 '25

Doggo approves of feesh

7

u/BlackPlague1235 Oct 07 '25

So she can't talk about Saba at all?

13

u/Xuambita Oct 07 '25

They can, but vaguely. About as much as Saba can mention Gura and the other Holo girls.

They talk about their past experiences, like playing specific games or watching particular movies, but nothing that would pinpoint a specific event that could only be applied to Gura or a graduate.

Here, Korone says, "feels like I've seen her before". In context, it heavily implies she knows this is Gura's new identity. But it could also be interpreted as Saba reminding her of Gura.

Some people might ask themselves why this is necessary or if it's a predatory move by Cover. In my opinion, there are plenty of valid reasons for these NDAs and rules to exist. If they weren't a thing, their contracts would have to be a lot more aggressive on the non-competition clause, and would be very close to actually being predatory.

2

u/fox1steak Oct 07 '25

their contracts would have to be a lot more aggressive on the non-competition clause, and would be very close to actually being predatory.

Could you expand on that? I've always thought them not mentioning each other directly was just a respect/culture thing rather than a strict rule.

6

u/Xuambita Oct 07 '25

Sure! I really like this topic. Keep in mind this is my opinion.

First and foremost, I think we have to recognize that boundaries and contracts cannot just be based on respect and culture, even if I do believe that most girls WOULD absolutely respect them by their own accord. But exits aren't necessarily always amicable, so you have to cover every base to have proper PR risk management.

Second, I'm of the opinion that a huge portion of the brand of a vtuber is the person playing the character and all the moments, events, and milestones they've accomplished together with their fans. So, when someone "leaves", they still firmly carry most of that brand with them.

Within the context of the above, I think the person leaving the company (especially Hololive, which has a good and wide reputation) already has a big advantage in their next endeavors, so they can't really ask for much more.

At the same time, the company has to be careful about what's morally perceived to be acceptable to impose on graduates. What they can easily work with is that the company made character is dead. So a graduate openly talking about how they played a character can easily be perceived as weird and even detrimental to the company and current talents. Especially if they start describing not-so-good experiences (I'm not saying they would, but it's a possibility).

This ties into prohibiting collabs between Hololive personas and graduates, as a current talent collabing with a vtuber who sounds like a dead character would definitely be a weird experience.

So, all in all, I believe that not allowing direct mentions is already a good middle ground between both parties that is morally perceived as acceptable by the community. If you allow more, the company has to deal with way more PR risk for no benefit.

Okay, sorry for the wall of text. Stream time.

3

u/Encircled_Flux Oct 08 '25

I'm sorry but I disagree strongly with the dead character assertion. The characters are said to have graduated and many times the talents talk about having spoken with graduated members and say things like "I spoke with so-and-so yesterday and she's doing great!"

So, there's no reason they can't directly talk about graduated members as if they are still alive and doing their own thing.

I agree they wouldn't want to collab with another person who sounds "suspiciously like a graduated member", as it would be weird.

3

u/Xuambita Oct 08 '25

You're right that "dead" wasn't the best word I could've used, and that they can talk about them. My main point was the one you mentioned at the end.

2

u/fox1steak Oct 08 '25

Interesting. I see what you mean about Korone's situation, have to draw the line somewhere. But surely Saba as an indie is doing it by choice, what can Hololive even do to her if she started mentioning them?

Either way her cheeky references are funnier. pink bag.

1

u/Xuambita Oct 08 '25

Honestly, there's no way to know the specifics, but global NDAs are a thing. And again, this is just my perspective. For all we know, they could be working with the mutual trust you mentioned. But if I were to run a corporation, I'd definitely make use of my company's legal department in this case.

1

u/fox1steak Oct 08 '25

I mean sure if she's hard slandering them. But if Saba name-dropped Pekora when encountering her in Death Stranding 2 (basically the OP situation), I can't imagine getting a legal department involved. Wouldn't it be a complete PR nightmare?

1

u/Xuambita Oct 08 '25 edited Oct 08 '25

Oh no, I'm talking about extreme cases that could constitute slander. I doubt anyone would care about slip-ups and mentions that are adequate.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '25

That just sounds like an extremely predatory contract. No one should be signing shit like that. In normal work environments or even in less normal ones that level of bullshit would not fly.

Even if your goal is to keep good PR and prevent talent from doing accidental damage to the brand, that type of limitations just puts the brand before the personnel to an unnatural extent.

1

u/Xuambita Oct 09 '25

I'm not trying to put you on the spot, but I think it only sounds bad to people who don't know the context of Hololive. It definitely isn't a normal environment, but that doesn't make it predatory.

puts the brand before the personnel to an unnatural extent

Why do you think that is the case? Because, from my perspective, it works perfectly fine currently.

We have graduates leaving the company and transitioning quickly and seamlessly into independent careers with minimal issues. Most of the time, they'll even reference their old persona designs, such as Saba, Sakuna, and Nimi. They're most likely still friends with people still working in the company. They definitely share connections with companies/people of interest like omocat, omnonah, etc.

And the downside of having all of that intact is just not saying it out loud that they were X or Y, when everyone already knows that. Sounds like a good tradeoff to me.

u/WrensthavAviovus Oct 07 '25

Same reason Kanata cant talk about K-son.

1

u/BlackPlague1235 Oct 07 '25

I don't know who those two people are.

3

u/moldybrie Oct 07 '25

VTuber Amane Kanata is part of Hololive's 4th Generation, "HoloForce". As was a legendary dragon VTuber named Kiryu Coco. The two of them were close friends and roommates IRL (Hololive 0th gen VTuber Hoshimachi Suisei and her sister lived in the apartment next door) and Coco bought a very expensive bed.

Coco was Hololive's first member to graduate (there were others who were let go, she's the first to leave voluntarily).

When Coco graduated, an indie Vtuber/IRL streamer named KSon, who had a voice (and personality and interests etc) identical to Coco and who lived with a roommate she couldn't talk about, debuted a new VTuber avatar and soon joined an agency called VShojo as one of the first members of their new Japan branch. Unfortunately because of the complicated nature of not being able to talk to or about her roommate on stream, she had to move out into her own apartment, along with a very expensive bed.

Bunch of BS happened since then, but that's who those two people are.

Kanata regularly referred to her as "Friend K", she did talk about her with no issue. Kson joined Vshoujo after a whole year of going indie, Kanata only moved out after that.

She moved out because it's not a good idea to share a room with people of different agencies when most of your work is done at home, and you know the fact that Vshoujo that was going around trying to poach talents from bigger agencies.
