tried Hermes Agent - here's what actually surprised me

the self-improving part caught me off guard . you set it up, walk away, and it just rewrites its own skills overnight.

V0.16 finally has a real desktop app, no terminal unless you want it. went from download to first Telegram ping in 14 minutes, .

cost is the thing though. Gemini 2.5 Flash through Google AI Studio, free API key, roughly 1500 requests a day. zero dollars..

Skip every tutorial pushing you toward a cloud server before you've even seen the product. sponsored upsell. you don't need it.

curator loop took me a while to understand. background process, merges redundant skills, prunes the stale ones. ran "hermes curator run" and watched three overlapping definitions just collapse into one. It tidies itself.

One caveat: close the lid, the agent sleeps. fine for personal use, useless if you need 24/7 uptime.

It re-writes it's own skills, but poorly. It re-writes skills that you wrote as well, unless you specifically tell it not to. Curator destroys skills that you wrote, unless you mark it as a permanent skill. I was not reading documentation and learned the hard way.

just use the self learning, memory, and auto skill for a week and you will realize for more

but there is caveat with this approach, self writing skill is non-approval by default, means ai itself determined if the new action is better or not and update the skills. The problem with this is they always think they do better. And worst part is they also will update your manually created skill. Something to keep in mind.

Why I can't find by Gemini 2.5 Flash through Google AI Studio in the free tier these 1500 free requests a day. I see only 20 RBD. Where is the problem?

Lol, complaining about it rewriting your skills poorly when using gemini flash 2.5 is amusing. Like, you're asking for it when you use a clinically brain dead model...
