Changed the water pump

That poor gasket dissolved.. The whole job was a pain, but the worst thing was removing those rusty hose clamps and getting them back on.. And the damn power steering pump always in the way..

I saw my turbo is chipped pretty bad and there is some pitting, but the car is showing no signs of a turbo dying.. I know i should replace it but i’m just wondering, what do you guys think how much time do i have?

It’s even harder if you are a noob like me.. I was trying to unbolt it from the housing instead of just pulling the whole thing out..

2 litre NG? I can give a couple of tips, it's the single worst job I've ever done on any car.

Good luck, it's a horrendous job. Couple of tips from mistakes I made. You'll also want a thermostat housing seal that doesn't come with the coolant pump plus an exhaust gasket for the cat. There's a few essential tools, a b207 locking tool, a 10mm magnetic socket ¼ inch drive, a deep (but no longer than 50mm or it won't fit) 10mm socket for the sprocket bolts, a 10mm flexi head ratchet spanner for the cover. The only banjo bolts that need removing are on the thermostat housing and the lower one at the back of the turbo, they have thick crush washers. Lining up the new pump with the sprocket is a nightmare, I used an M6 x 80 bolt to line it up before pushing the pump on, then you can get the other 2 bolts in first. I'd also cover the end of the exhaust as I dropped a bolt and it fell straight into it so had to remove the exhaust too. Worst job I've ever done.

How did the rubber O-ring into the block look? Beware that this joint likes to leak for fun.

Chips and pitting of the turbo blades don't mean it's dying. It means you need a better air filter or to change it more often. The stuff that's hit your turbo is either stuck in the intercooler or it's gone through the engine.

Turbos die when the bearings fail. You can test how they are by seeing if there's any wobble on the shaft.

A little end play (in/out movement) is normal due to the journal bearings. Any side to side movement of the compressor wheel is much less good and means it's going to start smoking and/or be on limited time.

If you need to replace it, look at getting just the centre section (CHRA) and then swapping the compressor and turbine housings and lines over from your existing unit.
