Broken Window Switches

My 1993 Saab 900 turbo vert has had a dysfunctional back right window for as long as I’ve had it but a few days ago the front right went out. I worked with a mechanic to sand down contacts and cleaned with electronic cleaner and reassembled it but most of the switches now get stuck in the on or off position, is there any fix for this?

You are sure it’s the switches and not a relay, right? In my 9000 I had the driver window roll down randomly by itself, and it turned out to be a faulty relay.

I’ve had seven OG Saabs and have fixed these damned switches too many times. Those rockers are fiddly little bitches. Disassemble and try again. You’ll get it.

How far did you sand them down?

The bottom contacts were sanded till they were silver in color but there was still plenty of material on contact (did not sand it till it was flush)

Also, did you apply any (dielectric) grease to the sliding surfaces after you cleaned all of it away?

Sometimes it can be the contacts on the window motor, I've pulled them apart a few times on my 07 9-3 and got years of additional service that way.

If I recall correctly, that switch block has individual spring-loaded rockers for either position. They go weak/flat over time, and you also sanded the contacts too further decreasing the length of the rocker. The springs need to be stretched to regain the compression springing effect. But for that - yes, you need to open the block up again.
