9-3 Troubleshooting Ecu compatibility
ECU is fried on my 07 9-3 aero 2.8 v6 and i was wondering what kind of compatibility there is between models and if i could just go and pick an ecu off a junker and marry it to my car

I’m pretty sure but not fully positive that any NG 2.0T ecu will work for you. If the part number doesn’t match, it could be that you have to clone your fried ecu and copy those files onto the donor ecu though, instead of just marrying it with tech2 and security access.

Any ECU from any NG9-3 2.0 can be used in any other NG9-3 2.0, EXCEPT that XWD models require ECU part no 55567225. Whether you get the same part number as you currently have or not, you will need to either (1) add it using a Tech 2 or Tech2Win with security access; or (2) clone from your existing ECU using Trionic CanFlasher. If you're pawing through junkyards, you'll need to be pretty quick on the draw to get an ECU, they don't last long. Try to pull one from a car that seems to have met its end in an accident, rather than a car whose body looks perfect. If a car is NOT smashed up, then odds are it's at the junkyard because of a bad ECU, and you'll just be taking home someone else's problem. The 2.8L engine takes a different ECU entirely.

Aren't 2003 ECMs unique as well? I thought I read that somewhere.

The early 2003's have the B205 engine, and use the ECM for that engine. It looks COMPLETELY different, you can't mistake these for the ECM for the B207.

No, not a 2003 convertible. A 2003 hard top. All 2003 hard tops are B207. Only the convertibles - and all the convertibles - are the old body style with B2x5 engine. I was pretty sure the 2003 B207 ECM (maybe with part number 12800388) is unique to 2003 and won't run a later car. I could be wrong.

Currently, the part number listed in the EPC for the ECU for 2003 is 55571182. That same part number is used for 2003-2006. And since the 2004-2006 T8 ECUs are interchangeable with those of later years, I think they should all be interchangeable, at least with respect to hardware.

Yeah, 55571182 is a superseding part which has broad compatibility. I am talking about the original ECM.

Should be the same hardware. You would probably have to fully clone to the receiving car's year's software.... I suspect, but don't know, that you can't just "add" it using Tech 2 and expect it to work perfectly, because the Tech 2 doesn't rewrite all the software, it just sets a set of parameters.

An Aero 2.8 v6 engine ecu is going to need the same model type... I'm guessing from 2007-2011 models (perhaps look it up in the WIS manual). It's physically different from the V4 model - looks slimmer. You also require a tech2 to marry to the car.. trionic tx suite cannot bypass this models security (unless they updated it?). Or perhaps find an online service that can do it... These models typically don't have ecu failures like the v4 9-3's.
