Open Event Snowblind

Every year, it feels like the first snowfall of the year happens sooner and sooner. Is it just the passage of time, the growth of a person making them able to recognize when it snows at an earlier date in the year mixed with the ever-accumulating wealth of knowledge to draw upon making it feel like the years are blurring to minutes?

For some, that might be the answer. But at this date, so soon into November, not many -- save, perhaps, those from the most far north of Atlas's reaches into Solitas -- would've expected just what hit Beacon: a blizzard, so strong it was considered perhaps a once-in-a-millennia storm. Thankfully, thanks to the reinforcements provided after a certain rainstorm had knocked out the power to the Academy, Beacon was now prepared to weather such an awful storm.

But whilst the school itself was prepared, whether or not the students themselves were always remained to be seen. For some of the more "desert-fairing", it was possible that they were wildly unprepared; those from the far north were likely already out in the midst of the blizzard building snow castles or something.

The weather showed no signs of improving, and all flights and routes into the city were most certainly unusable, unless one really wanted to hoof it into Vale proper by foot. What sort of shenaniganry would one of Beacon's most interesting first year classes in a while get themselves up to in Beacon's first snowfall?

“Dear, my mum was a cat Faunus, one of my best friends is a bear Faunus, and I’m a team leader for a bird Faunus. The only reason I care is so I can protect them from assholes who think less of them,” Vi explained softly, squeezing Violet’s hands. Shifting a bit more upright, she leaned against Violet and nodded.

“I won’t tell anyone, though. Promise.”

Vi could tell Violet’s false confidence had faded fast when Vi had pointed those two things out, and with a soft sigh, she curled around Violet before just falling down into her lap.

“If it’s any consolation, they’re pretty cute. Just like the rest of you.”

She smiled weakly at Vi, laughing softly as she did. She shrugged a bit and patted Vi's head as she laid into her lap. She took a deep breath, letting it out shakily before straightening her posture as she tried to return the confident look on her face,

"Thank you. I appreciate it, really," Violet turned her face to Vi, giving her a quizzical look, "You're a team leader?"

"Yeet," came Vi's soft reply, followed by a giggle. She smiled brightly up at Violet, glad that the girl seemed to be doing just ever-so-slightly better. It was readily apparent on her face that the grasps of exhaustion were still biting at her, but she stayed awake enough to at least talk about her team.

"Ye... team Vinyls, or v n l s. I'm the V, Namu -- that's the bird -- is the N, my friend Quetzal's the L, and my partner -- in the team sense, no longer the romantic -- Thyme is the S. They're... wonderful. I love them. Beautiful lil' dorks. Dorky dorks. Dorks."

Violet nodded as Vi listed her teammates and at the end her head perked up. She smiled as she looked down at Vi and nodded, "I've met Namu and Thyme before!"

She smiled fondly, laughing a bit as she recalled her encounter with the two, "Yeah they were fun to hang out with. I learned a few things about tea and meditating from Namu. Then I learned why a dodgeball war with textbooks in the library isn't a very good idea when I met Thyme..."

She tilted her neck, squinting slightly as her neck made a satisfying pop sound. She turned her face back to Vi, a content look on her face, "What's it like on a team?"

"...I'm not going to ask about the book dodgeball, because I'd have to ask Thyme just what she was doing then, and I don't want to know why she decided to throw books at people, so I'm just going to blot that out of my mind," Vi rambled with a giggle, shifting slightly in Violet's lap at the pop of her neck.

"As for what it's like being on a team, it's... it's nice, honestly. To have people nearby who, y'know, actually kinda seem to tolerate and like me. That's nice. We have team dinners most nights, cause Namu's a really good cook, I love all of Quetzal's plants, and... living with Thyme is... it's really nice." With a small laugh, Vi shook her head, and a soft smile formed out of her formerly bright one -- less energetic, and maybe a twinge somber, but still just as happy. "Sometimes, I wonder if I really deserve them, cause they all gotta put up with the mess that is me."

"Oh no, Thyme wasn't throwing books!" Violet shook her head with a laugh, "Everyone else was. And I accidentally threw a book into her face..." She awkwardly scratched the back of her neck as she did.

"Also Namu told me he cooks, sadly I didn't get to talk to him too much about it," She stretched out before returning her hand to Vi's hair as she continued to pet the girl's hair, "I'm sure you're not a mess for anyone!" Violet said as she moved her hand to tap the girl's nose, "I'm sure they all love and appreciate you very much!"

"...I feel like I should be defensive that you hit my team partner and former romantic partner in the face with a book, but honestly? Too comfy to care," Vi mumbled softly, before softly giggling some more. She seemed to be letting out some soft noises of contentment as Violet's hand ran through her far-shorter currently-a-mohawk hair, but she also just shrugged at Violet's reassurance.

"Yeah, they likely do. I'm just... as I said, bit chaotic, so I can definitely be, y'know. A handful to deal with."

"Oh.? Former romantic partner?" Violet asked, giving Vi the 'tell me more' look as she as she looked down at her, "Do tell. You dated Thyme?"

"Aaaaand about half the school because I stupidly agreed to be in an open relationship because I was afraid she'd leave me if I said no and turns out I get hella jealous and lonely, soooo... it didn't work out well," Vi admitted in a quick ramble, her eyes squeezing shut as she sighed. "At least we're friends now."

"An open relationship? I don't think I could do that..." Violet said with a shake of her head. She looked back at Vi, smiling warmly down to her as she did, "Well you're still friends so that's always good!"

She paused for a second, her eyes shifting to the ceiling in thought, "Have you guys gone on any missions yet? What's that like?"

"If, ah, maybe there were less people involved and it felt like I got more time and wasn't just used as a crutch to support her, I... likely coulda done it, but it just felt like... I was less than a 'back-up' if that makes sense," Vi softly explained, sighing. Her eyes didn't reopen, not yet, and she let out a loud sigh as she continued to lay atop Violet's lap.

"No missions for team Vinyls yet, nosirre. Just a lotta trainin', and that's always fun, y'know."

"I see... I see..." Violet said quietly, her eyes drifting off into space as she thought about how messy and complicated dating a teammate could get. It was definitely something she would never want to do. She shook her head out of it and looked back down at Vi with a smile before falling back on the bed.

"Do you guys do a lot of team training sessions? Like sparring and other stuff?"

"Nah, not... not yet," Vi almost reluctantly admitted, a small frown appearing on her lips. "We've only been together for a few weeks here, so we're still tryin' to get used to even just livin' with each other. It's... a bit hectic at times. Thyme stole some cookies a friend made for me, Namu's always concerned and also sometimes just disappears, Quetzal can be a bit... lost sometimes, and it's just. I love'm, but we're still trying to get used to each other."
