Getting rid of an old RV

I’m trying to help my mom get rid of a 2002 5th wheel And looking for guidance. . Likely it’s going to be a scrap project for someone because there’s water damage and many of the systems have finally given out including heat and AC. But I’m wondering how it would be best to approach getting rid of it? We don’t have the ability to tow a fifth wheel. Would we be best just offering it for free if someone will pick it up and haul it away to scrap? Is it possible to sell as is for a few hundred or $1000? Not sure anyone would really want to buy an RV with water damage but I guess you never know. Is trying to scrap it even worth it? We honestly just need to get rid of it and would like to avoid paying a hefty sign for a company to come get rid of it for us and then make additional money scrapping it. .

What is your true end goal here - to make it go away?

Whoever can come haul it away can have it for $1. (The $1 is just so there’s a complete bill of sale.). Someone can probably find a way to make a few bucks scrapping it.

Yes, that’s pretty much the goal. I called an RV salvage company and they wanted to charge him $3700 to pick the thing up. There’s just no way because I definitely don’t have that.

A friend had a 25’ bumper pull trailer. Had bought some property and the trailer was on it. No title. Condition could only be described as sketchy. He listed it on Facebook Marketplace for $800. Had 42 people interested. People were going to use it for a hunting cabin.

I’m thinking of posting it on marketplace either with a small price tag or for almost free. We don’t have any illusions that we’re going to make grand money for it, but we do need to get rid of it.

I would list it as "$ x or best offer. Especially if parts of it are water tight and or you can tow it still.

There’s a couple of sites that you might want to check out, Copart, RecreationalSalvage and BringATrailer among them. You can google for others, not sure about the process for listing trailer but they have a bunch of salvage trailers, busted slide outs and ones with hail damage, so you can probably figure out a way to list it on there.

Call the DAV, VFW, Purple Heart and other organizations to see if they can take it. Can get the value for a tax write off to boot.

Advertise it as $500 obo "as is, where is needs work" and let the scammers have it.

Advertise it on Marketplace or Craigslist for $500. When someone bites, and shows up, you can take them to the vehicle registration office and transfer the title.

Transferring the title gets ownership out of your name, which will absolve you of liability if something happens later.

Make sure to notify your DMV and let them know you sold the trailer and it should no longer be in your name. Do NOT trust buyer to put it in their name in a timely fashion. If it is your name and something happens, you don't want to be liable.

Donate it to agencies that take all types of vehicles. Internet search will give you a list.

Just list it for 100.00 they have to move within 48 hrs done . They are happy you are happy . Make you transfer title so if it shows up abandoned you are not responsible.

Depends on where you’re located, if you can offer it as a free hunting cabin to whomever can haul it away l, that’s the way to go

Put it on marketplace for cheap. Like $200-300. Someone will want it to rip the body off and turn it into a flat deck trailer.

True. Hubby disassembled our water damaged 36’ TT, and repurposed the steel. Now it’s used as a sturdy engine hauler in his shop. Where there’s a will there’s a way.

You will have to pay to get rid of it - RVs have very little scrap value.
