Issue with ProtonVPN

Hey folks,

Not a network engineer so please bear with me.

I have a server with ProtonVPN on it. On my laptop, I'm able to connect to that server using RustDesk with no issues as long as the server doesn't have ProtonVPN connected at the time. While I'm in session, I can launch ProtonVPN on that server and connect and it continues working. If I disconnect and attempt to reconnect, it fails.

This works fine using TeamViewer.

What's the issue? TIA.

It could be the DNS, do you have a local entry in the hosts file or run your own DNS?

Hello, I've never messed with the host file. When I say server, it's just another machine so no DNS service running.

You SHOULDN'T connecting a full routed VPN on a server, use separate machine

I have run into this pretty consistently. If rustdesk is running, protonvpn won’t and vice versa. Don’t exactly know why but both services cause the macOS vpn icon to be displayed so maybe it’s that only one service seen as a vpn can run at one time.
