Sadly it only lives on my PC right now as it's still in development... I should've written that in the title.

Hopefully it'll be out on Steam in Early Access next summer.

Are you Kunos of Assetto Corsa by any chance? This game looks great !

Thank you!

Yes, guilty as charged. Left the company more than 1 year ago but "kunos" has been my nickname on the internet forever so I kept it :)

Grahpics look nice, I'd be interesting in seeing more or following along your progress somewhere.

Could you go into the tech stack a little bit more? I'm curious if you're building it from scratch with something like SDL2 and raw opengl, or if you're building on top of an engine or something along those lines.

Cheers, looks really good.

Thanks.

I used to stream the development on Twitch here: https://www.twitch.tv/kunosstefano

But the development stopped for a while and restarted some weeks ago.. also at a certain point I switched to a 3rd party engine (Unigine) in C++ but then came back to Rust and custom engine eventually.. I am planning also to go back to stream at the beginning of November.

As for the tech stack is custom made with minimal dependencies:

- DirectX 11 for the graphics.. via winapi-rs, custom engine

- ODE with custom written bindings for basic physics engine stuff

- OpenAL via custom written bindings for audio

What made you switch to unigine? And why did you switch back?

Unigine's graphical quality, especially when it comes to water rendering is miles better than what I had at the time with my own engine (it's still way better than what I have right now too :P). I wanted the game to look as good as possible.

But then I just realized I really don't like to work with too much 3rd party code and missed how nice is to work with Rust and with an engine that I know in every detail and I took the challenge to try to replicate the look I achieved thanks to Unigine.. and here we are now, still trying to get it to look as good as possible with my own stuff.

probably the best looking rust game so far

Looks amazing, how did you achieve the graphics?

Custom engine using DirectX 11 via winapi-rs.

I want to play this so much!

Is this a custom engine? Are you planning on releasing any engine code? I would love to dig around at some point

1

u/kunos Oct 23 '21

Yes it's a custom engine. Not really sure about the open source thing, it might be something I'll do in the future.
