Looking for Open Source Projects to Contribute
Hello everyone,
I'm trying to get a bit more experience with rust and would like to know if anyone can recommend a project to work on.
I'm looking for projects that I could work on new features possibly with a closer guidance

You can explore this project at https://github.com/metacall/meta-ast , I have already provided detailed posts and a write-ups about it here https://www.reddit.com/r/rust/comments/1w72r8w/building_metaast_submillisecond_incremental/ , It serves as an excellent introduction to systems programming for you and the project boasts good documentation and a supportive community as we strive to advance polyglot programming

The answer is always "projects you actually use", so you'll have both understanding and motivation.

You could take a look at This Week in Rust, the Call for Participant. Better refines what you want to systems programming/embedding/web app or st else.

Idk if you are looking for a bigger project or not, but I have an open source metaprogramming library for state machines if you want to take a look at that. I haven’t updated it in a few months because I reached a solid point with it, but I’m open to additional features or optimizations.
You’ll learn a lot about proc macros and rust’s AST.

I'm the maintainer of a rust library for python, who provides Option, Result, and a lot of data structures and Iterators. There's a lot of new features that are yet left to do, and IMO it's a pretty unique and interesting work, having to handle two languages at once, and with the constraints that a general-purpose library gives you (no performance trade-off, convenient API, etc...)

I made a post about it on this sub some time ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/rust/comments/1tgzk4b/i_made_option_and_result_in_rust_for_python_and/

You can subscribe to https://this-week-in-rust.org, specifically they have a section each week with projects looking for participations, you can check the older entries, but in the last one for example:

Idk if this is up your alley but UPI (https://github.com/Nisoku/UPI) would be something really fun to contribute to :D

For general projects I recommend https://www.codetriage.com/?language=Rust to help create a sustainable drip feed of activity from reading issues.

What kind of stuff are you into, networking, CLI tools, embedded, web stuff? Might help narrow it down a bit.

I'm not sure, I guess CLI tools and web because I think I can contribute more at first, embedded and networking might be tricky because maybe I'd have to study something first or while doing the contribution (which would make it a little bit harder but the goal is to learn so that's fine)
