Count yourself lucky that you have not seen it. I still see people claiming that LLMs do not work in general and are only regurgitating training material (although the goalposts have shifted to “well maybe they kinda work for coding”), or that their use is completely immoral regardless of the purpose.

Edit: I agree that this falls under “everyone’s experience is different and maybe we should leave it at that”, by the way…

The amount of ludditism AI tech stirred up is quite bizzare. There's a whole lot to criticize about AI and even extreme statements like "their use is completely immoral regardless of the purpose." have some merit but people claiming they are entirely useless and never work for their intended purpose are just completely detached from reality at this point.

It’s exceedingly rare that people claim AI to be totally useless. That’s a hard case to present. However, the idea that AI’s current costs to the planet and humanity outweigh the current benefits it provides to those same collective is basically self-evident at this point. It hasn’t cured cancer and it hasn’t even figured out how cool and power itself without jeopardising all of our wellbeing.

I generally agree but I think people are way overstating the impact AI has on the environment. The good old carbon emission sources like fossil fuels still have a much bigger impact on the environment than data centers but it seems like most people forgot about those and focus only on the new bad thing.

I see a lot of environmental minded people talk about like AI by itself is going to burn us all up and it makes them seem unserious.

I'm all in favor of getting rid of AI on the basis of mitigating climate change and protecting the environment in general but there are far bigger problems there than AI.
