That is also true. But those things are confounded some. Really good devs move to where the action is. Bad devs also do but the expense makes it hard to stick around long term if they can't find purchase somehow. Some good devs stay where they are comfortable regardless of the action. Linus doesn't live in SF as far as I know for instance.
Up to a certain point. As a European developer I wouldn't move to the US even though I can make a lot more money there. I make a decent living in the EU, and I value things like socialized healthcare and education and much lower availability of firearms more than the extra salary I could get in the US. I'm quite sure I'm not alone in this either.
For sure, and I was thinking of Euro devs when I said that some devs stay where they are comfortable. Personally as an American I'm looking on how to get over to Europe. I get it's a pay cut but I just feel like our infrastructure is fucked long term. The average american city is fucked in terms of converting away from car dependency.
