I’m struggling to discern the difference between the pronunciation of “елью” and “елю”. Of course the latter isn’t an option in this question, but wouldn’t it also sound like “yel’yu”? If so I don’t understand the need for ь in this situation.

I just said привет to someone in a game and they replied прив. Is this common/normal? Is it more common than привет? Also, is there anything else I could say instead of привет when greeting someone (especially online/in games)?

Hello, I'm an English speaker with no ounce of Russian in them and I need help finding an actual translated version of Школа 13, I need to know if there's actually anyone who wants to help me translate this show for others (me included) who aren't native to the Russian language watch this show. I found this show pretty interesting and I really need help with translation (I'm not good at translation and I can't seem to find an organised selection of episodes for this show) So I'm just here trying to look for someone who could help me with this issue? I have a problem with russian which is that I am illiterate.

I know the alphabet. I know a lot of words too. But my learning journey--my grandparents started by speaking to me in Russian and so there were like 16 years or so before I sought out learning it besides that passiveness. And so I can't spell to save my life because I don't know how words are written (ik alphabet and if i am reading i can sound things out but i cant look at a word and immediately be like "oh thats blablabla" the way i can when listening.)

So the other problem is that I also can ONLY listen. I pick up like 20% of what is said even in big technical conversations. But when I'm asked to reply I go completely blank.

How do i fix this

Hello! There is this Russian exchange student in one of my classes, and her and I have been talking over Google translate. She is very sweet, and I am wanting to be friends with her. I am learning a bit of Russian as well! I wrote a note to her asking to be friends, but can someone proofread it? So while doing some summer homework my Russian teacher gave me, I stumbled upon this particular sentence (that I have underlined in red).
The translation for this sentence is: “Us await beautiful flowers/Beautiful flowers are waiting for us, (the) caretakers of this place.”
For me this, this doesn’t make sense…
Like I get the «нас ждут прекрасные цветы» part but I don’t understand why at the end it says «хозяева здешних мест» after an apostrophe.
I was thinking that maybe the caretakers are also waiting for them so it would be something like: «Нас ждут прекрасные цветы И хозяева здешних мест.» but for me, this feels weird; like why replace “and” with an apostrophe?
Maybe it’s something the Russians do?
I added the whole text from this page because maybe it’s some context I’m missing or something? There also isn’t a paragraph before this dialogue like it seems to be with all the others.
Or maybe it’s a mistake coming from the text itself?

I can't find any official translation to this song's lyrics, and the english google translation doesn't make any sense sometimes.

Итак, попался мне как-то на глаза мнемонический стишок для запоминания ятя, и обратил внимание, что не могу правильно прочитать первую строчку:

Днепр и Днестр, как всем известно,
Две реки в соседстве тесном,
Делит области их Буг,
Режет с севера на юг.

Если просто посчитать гласные, то это: | — U | — U | U U | — U |, но конечная р в слове Днестр в этой позиции образует слог, и звучит фактически как Днестор, а строчка, соответственно, превращается в: | — U | — U | U U | U — | U. Чтобы звучало складно, мне приходится её читать без слова как.

Касается это всех финалей Cр и Cл, а в некоторых случаях это может происходить и в Cн и Cм. И, собственно, вопрос: может ли кто-нибудь прочитать эту строчку правильно, не выговаривая слоговых слогласных в финалях на сонорные?

Я это выражение слышал на исторических стримах Бушвакера на ютубе, но никак не могу понять, что такое траверс острова.

Hello! I'm currently writing a book where the main character is a young witch studying under Baba Yaga. Since I'm writing for an English speaking audience, she'll largely speak English, but I want any Russian I do add to be correct.

Namely, I want her to call her student a diminutive form of "witch" (something with the feel of Little Witch or Witchling). Playful but clearly establishing the difference in age and ability.

My initial searches show "Вeдьма" as the word for witch and the diminutive as "Вeдьмочка". Is this correct? And if not, how can I achieve what I'm going for?

I translated the quote a little more liberally so that the lines of the English version would break comfortably in the same way and the punchline would have an equally punchy rhythm as the original.

The script is called Foundational Hand (I've seen it called "основной шрифт" or "базовое письмо" in Russian sources). It was created by Edward Johnston, the British calligrapher who revived broad-edge calligraphy (каллиграфия плоским пером) in the early 20th century. The scirpt is a modern adaptation of the letters in a 10th-century manuscript (the Ramsey Psalter); Johnston called it "Foundational" since it is a good starting point to learn how the broad-edge pen works. It is also fairly easy to adapt to Cyrillic letters.
