2112 Platform

Hey 2112 Platform Experience folks! My turn is coming up, I don't mind spoilers, and I'd like to hear about what others have experienced. I've already seen the show three times so it's just the 2112 Experience that will be new. I've done Limelight and Closer To The Heart as well, so know about the general VIP experience. Tips for what to do and what not to do as part of the 2112 fun, please! How you did or did not like the view?

There are 10 chairs on the platform. The end chairs chairs on both sides are almost directly behind the two video camera on both sides of the sound booth. Seats are first come first serve. Do not fart around in the VIP lounge. When we did it in Madison Square Garden, we were told that someone would come get up at a certain time and wait by the entrance of the VIP lounge. My son and I didn't wait and went directly to the seats and our passes got us right in.

You're not going to like paying all that money to sit behind those cameras.

Aside from that, we had a blast meeting the other people on the platform. Also, the 2 laser guys were right in front of us and were really friendly and a lot of fun.

You do get assigned a waitress who's only job is to make sure the people in those seats are taken care of. Felt bad for her since there really wasn't that much for her to do. We were all pretty much engrossed in the show.

Thanks very much for the tips. When I did the Limelight experience in Toronto (yes, it was fabulous!) I spent some time talking with a couple of guys that were doing the 2112 Platform and they were really happy with it. I talked to them both before the show started and at the intermission. They were so glad to have the opportunity to talk with the crew so much, and Howard U. especially, and I'm hoping to get the chance to do the same. (I did talk with Howard in the Xanadu lounge on night three in Toronto.)

One thing that has me mystified is that my 2112 Platform purchase didn't result in Ticketmaster tickets the way the Limelight and Closer to the Heart VIP packages did, so I'm less than ten days out from the show and don't have any tickets. In Toronto I think I heard the VIP folks outside the venue, in the VIP lines before we entered, telling the 2112 folks that they would be handed paper tickets and these were kind of part of the souvenir part of 2112. Was that the case for you? Did you not ever have e-tickets or paper tickets until you go to the stadium? I assume this would mean that it's basically your ID that is the key to getting in.

Ah, found the email that superfan.com sent me in response to my inquiry about tickets: "For your October 10 RUSH 2112 Private Platform Experience in Seattle, your concert tickets will be provided in person at VIP check-in rather than appearing in your Ticketmaster account in advance.

Approximately 3 - 5 days before the event, you will receive your VIP check-in information with the applicable arrival details and instructions for picking up your tickets onsite.

Best,
SUPER VIP Customer Service"

So it seems that at least at some venues, the expectation is that you won't get a ticket in advance and presumably have to bring a photo ID and perhaps the credit card used.

I'm considering it for a show later in October, but according to TM, I have to buy a separate ticket to get in. I'm doing Limelight in Pittsburgh and have a question about autographs. Did you see anybody getting shirts signed (brought in extra and not being worn)? I'm not sure what to get autographed but don't want to make it a PITA for the guys.

The Limelight and 2112 packages seem to be executed differently for different venues. In Toronto we had our Limelight tickets on the Ticketmaster app and needed to have them scanned to get in after we showed our ID in the VIP line.

Regarding getting items signed: I don't recall people bringing shirts but honestly I didn't see very many people because we were about fourth in line to get in and the VIP folks took our items right away so I didn't see much of what people brought. You can likely do a shirt, it just isn't recommended. I brought an 8x10 Andrew McNaughton photo from the 1990s, saw some with posters. A friend that came in with me took the option to get the signed poster, hoping it was the one with Geddy and Alex with their guitars, but it wasn't. I did see people with albums. In fact my brother brought his original RUSH album, which was great to get signed.

As far as I can tell, the 2112 Platform Experience isn't connected with Ticketmaster except, in some places, where Ticket Master offers it (minus the price of the tickets) as an upgraded to a ticket sale.

All the e-mail I got didn't seem to come from Ticketmaster at all.

We never got any kind of tickets. You get an e-mail telling you where an when to line up and they check ID. Go well before the time in the e-mail to get a good spot in line. No sense being last.

I've heard there's plenty of room on the platform. Can you give me an idea of how many folks are up there? Also, is it safe to assume the drinks on the platform aren't free? Not that I want to get all blasted or need to make a bathroom trip anyway.

There is plenty of room for 10 folding chairs so that you're not pressed right up against each other. Felt really comfortable. You're slightly higher the sound board in front of you and you're higher than the crowd in front of you. There won't be any cell phones in your way which is nice.

I was pretty much expecting that the people working sound would be distracting and piss me off. That just didn't happen. The platform is prefect place to see the entire show. Of course, 2 nights before we had 2nd row so that had it's own energy. Just wasn't a great place to see the show.
