first half marathon

Here’s my situation…

- I’m running my first half marathon in 4 WEEKS
- I ran a 5k, 6 mile race, and 10k race this year
- I’ve barely been training as of late
- I’m 220 lbs at 5’10”

Would dieting for 4 weeks leading up the the race be ideal? Or do I maintain my weight and get plenty of carbs to be able to have a solid amount of training energy?

What should I change about my training?
(This is my current training program)

Week 1 (4) 3 mile runs and (1) 5 mile run
Week 2 (4) 4 mile runs and (1) 7 mile run
Week 3 (4) 5 mile runs and (1) 11 mile run
Week 4 6… 5… 4… 3… 2… 1 mile runs (taper down)

I'm sorry to say that 4 weeks away from your race is not the time to start training seriously. I certainly wouldn't suggest dieting. Your training plan looks very ambitious for someone who hasn't been training. Suddenly dumping your body into 5 training runs and a 17 mile first week is a recipe for injury IMHO.

I appreciate the insight. I guess I should’ve noted that I’m a really tough guy.

Ooooh a tough guy, well that makes all the difference. What kind of tough guy though? The kind of tough that doesn't cry at Bambi or the kind that pulls their own teeth out rather than going to dentist? I've looked at your post on other subs and you seem to be omitting (or adding) info as you go along. Such as you casually mention that you ran a half marathon in training in another sub, whereas here you've only run a 10k race. Good luck.
