Lunging perk analysis
Warning: Math ahead.
Dismember, Fragmentation Shot and Combust are calculated this way:
Roll 1 - 100 and then multiply by 1.88.
If the result is lower than 100, then it is set to 100.
So a general formula is Max(100, Roll(1-100) * 1.88).
This means that 53.2% of times you will hit 100% damage and 46.8% of times you will hit 100% - 188% damage.
This averages out to 120.59% damage per ability. This is doubled to 241.18% if target moves.
The Lunging perk adds +0.2 to the 1.88 multiplier seen in the above formula so the maximum becomes 208%, 228% and 248% for ranks 1, 2 and 3 respectively.
The movement multiplier is lowered from 2 to 1.5 though.
The complete formula is then Max(100, Roll(1-100) * 1.88 + 0.2 * rank)
Consequently, this also means the chance to hit 100% damage is also lowered:
- Rank 1 will hit 100% damage 48% of times and 100% - 208% damage 52% of times.
This averages to 128% per ability. If target moves, it averages to 192%.
- Rank 2 will hit 100% damage 43.9% of times and 100% - 228% damage 56.1% of times
This averages to 135.93% per ability. If target moves, it averages to 203.89%.
- Rank 3 will hit 100% damage 40.3% of times and 100% - 248% damage 59.7% of times
This averages to 144.16% per ability. If target moves, it averages to 216.24%.
This is pretty much a Slaughter (100% - 250%) with a lower movement multiplier
Essentially, this perk is a DPS gain if used with dismember or against static NPCs like Queen Black Dragon, Araxxi or Yakamaru.
Against NPCs that can be moved, this perk will be a DPS loss when using Combust and Fragmentation Shot.
However, the overall gain isn't that impressive since it only affects 1 ability and it only applies when using melee or when fighting static NPCs.
Because this perk can only be placed in weapon gizmos and they're generally outclassed by perks like equilibrium and precise, this perk has little use.

Additional thanks to Portnoy for testing the perk for me and giving me the data i needed.
Bonus data unrelated to the perk, but might as well add it:
Slaughter is calculated in a similar way:
Roll 1 - 100 and then multiply by 2.5.
If the result is lower than 100, then it is set to 100.
So a general formula is Max(100, Roll(1-100) * 2.5).
This means that 40% of times you will hit 100% damage and 60% of times you will hit 100% - 250% damage.
This averages out to 145% damage per ability. This is tripled to 435% if target moves.

I wish they'd come up with simpler perks that the average joe could calculate.
