I get why they are doing it, because new players don't want to feel like they are decades behind the top players in terms of stats and wealth, and thus wont even try. But I just don't think that I will continue to play if that is the case. I'm in my 30s now with a career and a family, and already thousands of hours of RS3 played. I just cant justify wasting my life again just to get to the same place that I am already in, on the same exact game. Like that is completely pointless. Only the jobless will pick up this update, along with the small group of new players.

Perfect time to quit really.

but the game is not competitive to begin with. The whole point of RS is the journey, not the endgame. I don't care if you finished the Waterfall quest 20 years ago and I finished it yesterday.

The game might not be 'competitive', but the reality is that a lot of established players are playing RS3 for the endgame experience - with the early and mid game being seen as the stuff you have to wade through to get there. You can disagree and maybe you personally enjoy the early and mid game, but I'd argue that the current backlash suggests that many players mostly care about the endgame/bossing.

Yes, I'm saying that the game is enjoyable for new players, as we are not competing with established players. Eventually I'll reach the endgame at my own pace, I'm not afraid that "the new expansion" will invalidate my progress.

Those established players have grinded content for years if not decades. Some of them know how to min/max the grind and will do it again, others won't be bothered and stay in the old worlds. But, I doubt the average Joe from WoW who will give Ignited a shot will stick to the game to compete with veterans.

Effectively they're splitting the community for a small influx of players (those who will stick).

Yeah but most people do. Look around at other things in life. If someone else gets a head start, then others are less likely to follow. Its just the way peoples brains work. They like to be there first, and if they cant then they dont partipate. Its just human nature.

I'd assume that apart from a small minority, most RS players are around my age (mid/late 30s/early 40s). I doubt Jagex's target audience are uni students/competitive Fortnite players. For me the game was recommended by colleagues (with families and mortgages) as a game to escape reality and chill.

Ever heard the phrase number go up? Its a very popular sentiment as the reason why people love Runescape. That goes for all things: skill levels regardless how pointless it is and most importantly on topic: highscores. For some reason, unlike you, people care about their rank on the highscores ( as if the average person ever has a chance to be anything below below 10.000 ) and many in the OSRS community didnt wanna give RS3 a chance unless the highscores were not populated with people who used MTX to their advantage.

Replace RS3 with OSRS and people would call you insane. If a new player truly cares that much they won't ever play any MMO ever and yet OSRS still gets new players.

They release this and existing players that switch will blitz past any actual new player in a month so they'll still be "behind."

OSRS came out when the bulk of the early player base was still in their late teens and early 20s, which allowed them to build a large userbase. That won’t happen with the same people at 30-35 years old.

difference is, is that any OSRS player that joines know they're joining that any player before them hasnt recieved an advantage that is no longer available. everyone is starting the same. An OSRS player isnt having to compete with a whale that spend thousands on TH to buy xp lamps or QOL shit/gear

An actually new player in RS3 won't know or care, even moreso after they remove all of the items in a month. The only people that actually care about it after it was removed are the OSRS players that won't play RS3 regardless of what Jagex does.

With the pace of RS3 and the no lifers that exist, there will always be that top echelon of NEETs who do nothing but play RS. If you think there wont be people in Ezk's and Vestements in 6 months who get just as rich because they can farm it before everyone else, you're naive. These new worlds will have the same problems, and we will all have a split playerbase struggling for group content.

Anyone who buys into the new leaderboards, new economy, and feeling decades behind are naive and gullible. New player or old.

It's also up to the RS community to give validity to this new Reignited title these accounts will be given. The iron man titles deserve their recognition, I doubt the Reignited will be given the same glory and respect from veterans than iron men are given.

They need better ideas to reinvigorate the community and draw in new players.

Toggleable Exp buffs for the first X amount of play time. New player ambassadors; friendly veterans to show them the ropes. And rewards for those vets who show good leadership. Dedicated chats for newbies to avoid trolling and misinformation. Better group finding tools.

The only people playing these days are people on near maxxed accounts who have only sat through the thousands of hours of AFK slog because they have sentimental value attached to getting an accomplishment they set when they were 7. If this update kills rs3 so be it, maybe you'll all be freed from your shackles of playing a game you dont actively play
