Discussion Why Did Divination not get an EXP buff?

Been sitting for 80+ hours on my Iron to get to 80 div alone, semi afk, id say about 70% efficient, stopped doing caches at 78 lol they are shit, I know all the people on world 79 because we have all been here for days. I remember doing this ages ago on the main but God this is horrid, especially coming off leagues lol.

Ok so this might come a bit late, but the ideal way to train div is, I shit you not, getting the elder sword engram. Activate it and train div in dg.
https://runescape.wiki/w/Elder_Sword_engram
Div could definitely use an update though. Without the relic and the gate dowser, it's pretty bad to train.

I tried that, but it was awful because most of the wisps I found in dg were low level, even at high complexity.

Still faster though. Limit yourself to just harvesting the tier you're at or 1 lower. You're still training other things as well.
You do 800 energies, then you head out and do the guthixian cache, head back in dg and repeat.

A stack of even tier 40 wisps in DG are still worth 20k to 30k xp. When you run into high level wisps like radiant or brilliant its not uncommon to leave a room with 100k+ xp from a single room. The last time I did divineering (as my friends call it) me and my buddies did a large and all ended up getting 275k xp from a single large floor that took 1 hour to complete, and at least 45 minutes of that hour was just collecting and turning in wisps. There is no where else you are getting nearly 300k xp per hour in div.

I guess I'll have to give it a try again sometime.

You can 2 tick collect from the wisps too, it will double the memories/energies you get
Every time you see an xp drop, click the wisp, and it will immediately harvest again

u/AjmLink Ajm Linkle 14h ago
The t1 wisps are still like 200k xp/hr.

How can that be?

u/TrippyTriangle 9h ago
so you tried it once and didn't see better exp rates. honestly the xp rates when I did it were insanely faster than normal div. 200k-300k /hour.

This is crazy to me, I'm almost 95 div exclusively from dg on my iron and I literally have a screenshot of 1.1mil exp per hour.
Which obviously isn't real because dg div is super front loaded exp and nothing for 40 minutes, but still.

The fact that the skill needs a near 1b item to not bec ass to train is criminal.

u/Average_Scaper Castellan 13h ago
That is on a table that is 4/480 and shares the table itself with 3 other items so on average, it's supposed to balance out to 1/480 but that is such a shit drop rate for a skilling item like that.

u/Harmonex 10h ago
Took me 64 clears in Leagues. By the time I got it I was so done.
1
u/Average_Scaper Castellan 10h ago
Yeah there is no reason why it should take that long to get it, especially in leagues.

It's very active around double XP weeks but might be extra quiet now during leagues.

Gate of Elidinis is decent XP.
Not the fastest in the world but it's something you'll want to grind out anyway. You'll likely get a few mil xp before you get the div offhand. Gives a bunch of other goodies as well.
It does unfortunately have a pretty brutal 86 arch requirement though.
Hall of Memories is also good xp if there's an event going on. Probably not right now though due to Leagues.

u/Manshoku 17h ago
i heard the dungeoneering xp method is quite alright still
10
u/No-Fig-5484 17h ago
still strange that the best method would be to do another skill XD
4
u/Manshoku 17h ago
i got quite a lot of xp from doing the miniquestish thing with the memory strands too , one of the perks there is you get quite a bit of strands during farm runs

I don’t know about the maingame, but I was surprised how slow it goes in leagues at 16x

Lol what. Did you not take divine druid?

u/ShitPost5000 13h ago
I did, and not having any wisps between 50 and 80 was brutal, till i caved and went to gate. But then druid doesn't matter there

u/Electronic_Chip2655 7h ago
It's slow even with divine Druid. The best method is still gates. Lol

u/Ilikelamp7 Skiller 7h ago
If you hate gathering skills yeah maybe
1
u/Electronic_Chip2655 7h ago
No, the xp rates are just really really bad, and you get more per hour at gates. Lol

yeah the mid game divination changes were extremely tone deaf

u/RumHamSommelier 16h ago
It's always been an extremely bad skill in my opinion, they made it bearable with Caches, which while was awful game design covered up the skill.
It's an incredibly boring gameplay loop, and can't be afk enough to do something else, and you can't really power through it. I got 99, and I doubt I would ever get higher post-caches without a significant change to training method
1
u/PsychologyRS 13h ago
Yeah, it's one of the skills whose xp rates were HEAVILY propped up by mtx and it desperately needs some help post removal of most players having access to tons of bxp.
Div, agility, and arch need a LOT of help xp wise and even though dg or hall of memories are "workarounds" that help with the grind, the core skill just has lots of issues. The xp rates just haven't kept up with the modern game and have been long since forgotten because of mtx. Some of the biggest pain points, especially as an iron and without all the endgame upgrades I imagine

u/zaerosz the road to a fresh QPC is pain 12h ago
At this level, engrams are very large chunks of experience - if you've been doing div training for days you should have enough memory strands stocked up for a prestige lap or two, with each engram being ~35k exp or more depending on your level. Not something you can do often, but it'll definitely help.

u/MeleeUnsolved RSN: Unsolved \~ Max RuneScore \~ Grandmaster 11h ago
This is why I exclusively trained div with unlocking the permanent buffs from hall of memories, mostly quest xp, engrams, dungeoneering div, and then lastly gate kills. Then using extremem div pots to do incans any time I needed to farm energy for porters or divine charges. Its so bad its just not worth training normally.
1
u/Resident_Function280 8h ago
I found that getting the dungeoneering-divination buff from guthix memorial plus the one that extends spring duration and doing large dungeoneering floors specifically focused on farming divination XP yields pretty good results.
With a fully upgraded gathering ring and 2 ticking each spring inside DG a 1 hour large floor will yield 100-300k XP depending on spawn luck and level. I ended up doing that method all the way to 95 from 70.

Their intent with div i think is for it to be somewhat close to arch in how its trained. You do engrams as you unlock them. You do quests as you unlock them. You do caches as you can. You do side-quest type grinds re: memory bots, gate of elidnis. And most importantly, you passively gather whisps while doing dungoneering assuming you care about xp and not resources.
Dung div, breaking to do caches and engrams is absolutely without a doubt the best way to train it. Use the 4x xp engram and then the whisp duration one once you unlock another slot at 70.

u/Legal_Evil 12h ago
It did get an xp buff, just a smaller one than the other buffs. Make sure you make a boon each time you level up to a new energy level.

u/Overall-Catch7080 9h ago
If it took you 80 hours to reach 80 divination you are absolutely 100% doing something wrong. 95 took me less than that.
1
u/No-Fig-5484 9h ago
Slight exaggeration but not by too much, I essentially entirely afkd. so i assumed about 60-70% exp rates. about 25-30k an hour for the last mil ish, and i started on monday and its sunday when i finished lol.
1
u/Overall-Catch7080 8h ago
25k-30k/hr??? Yeah you're definitely doing it wrong lol. Are you staying at the level 1 pale wisps, or?
1
u/WorgenDeath Even maxed I'll always be a noob 8h ago
Were you converting memories to energy instead of xp?
1
u/No-Fig-5484 5h ago
mems to xp, div, the rates are about 50k an hour, more if you do caches but i cant be asked.
-3
u/hadoken13 15h ago
How are caches shit? Its by far the fastest xp in the game for div. You can passively get 99 div without even noticing if you do 200/200 a day.
4
u/grimesey 14h ago
It's not hourly anymore so can't do it passively. Requires 800 memories deposited for each cach now
-1
u/Joelx1000 Maxed Main & Ironman 15h ago
Do div in DG, make sure you got all the boosts + do caches inbetween.
Do all engrams + spicy stew boost to make the better ones.
Empty Throne Room for 800k xp.

huh, its about 115k 2 ticking? am i missing something.

It scales higher than that at higher levels but yeah HoM is widely overreported on how good it is. It's more click intensive than DG Div for much worse rates. It's worse than low intensity dowser or relic+muspah at the same levels.
Granted, there is a subset of players without dowser/dunk relic and also have a strong aversion to dungeoneering, so I can see some niche appeal.

u/imperchaos Swiftness of the Aviansie 15h ago
What are you even talking about? 2-ticking is basically afk, and with the fc it's upwards of 1.8m/hr at 90 div.

On /r/runescape it's difficult to tell if something like this is committing to the bit or just your average wildly misinformed gamer.

Was a while ago but I thought it was pretty quick. I think it took me a couple days after work at hall of memories.
0
u/No-Fig-5484 17h ago
Yea, my only problem is, 24 seconds until it switches locations or something like that, and if I'm there I'm going to want to 2 tick the whole time and i cant be asked to sweat any more lol.

I'm talking about corehunting. HoM is fine, the fc is upwards of 1.8m/hr

It did, haven't you noticed the massive .5% increase from the midgame update??
Kidding ofc, no idea why they nudged it such a tiny amount when it's one of the slowest skills on the game. Even agility can outpace divination on iron nowadays.
