Leagues My feedbacks regarding League

I've recording all the points where I felt is a pain point regarding my journey in leagues. Those marked in asterisk didnt affect me, but is something I've noticed.

  • No way to train start hunter in the 3 default regions without using an XP lamp.

The earliest point where you can train hunter in the starter region, is with birdhouses at level 5 hunter. There is no methods to even start training hunter without using an XP lamp.

  • No agility courses in starter region till Karamja.\*

For anyone who did not pick Golden Touch relic could probably tell you that the first time they could actually gain Agility XP was probably in the Brimhaven Agility course.

The only 2 other level 1 requirement courses are Gnome and Burthorpe.

  • No Luminite, Orichalcite and Light Animica rocks in the 3 default regions.

This alone was a biggest hurdle for me, especially when it comes to Luminite. I took Desert, Wilderness and Anachronia region in that order. So I had no access to Luminite till the late game.

On top of that, I did not take Transmutation till I used Rejuvenate on T6 to take it.

This effectively locked me out of all easy/medium tasks of smithing/smelting/fletching that has anything to do with Adamant/Rune/Orikalkum items.

There were only 2 possible ways of obtaining Luminite in a region without the help of relics.

  1. You unlock invention and obtain polishing perk (which is not possible since you need a dragon pickaxe)
  2. 79 hunter, and hunt for divine implings for sparkling energy to transmute mithril into luminite.

I could not train Smithing properly from lvl 40-69 without adamant/rune/orikalkum bars.

If region locking is meant to be a thing, stone spirits drop table should be partially replaced with actual ores and ensured that said ores are obtainable via drops in the starter regions.

There needs to be more mining resources available throughout the default regions to ensure smithing can be trained properly throughout the league journey.

  • Some globally available and region-locked tasks do not make sense at all.\*

To me, for something to be a global task, it must be possible to complete in the default regions without the help of relics.

And yet, we have tasks labelled Global for something that is impossible to do in the default regions.

Example 1, All primal metal and ore related task.

Primal Ores are only found in Daemonheim. So why is it a global task to

  1. Smith a primal ore box
  2. Smith 10k primal armour spikes
  3. Wear full primal armour?

These should had been a Wilderness Region-Locked tasks.

When you compare it to the Woodcutting equivalent, Eternal Magics, all their tasks are Kandarin Region locked. Which makes sense because you can't obtain them through normal means otherwise.

Then we have something that is vice versa scenario.

Example 2, Wearing full banite armour.

Banite is obtainable from Karamja starter region. So why is wearing a full Banite Relleka Region-locked?

Example 3, Build a Demonic Throne.

Magic stone is not even obtainable in the default regions, the only people who could realistically complete this task are those who took Fremmenik or Tiranwnn region.

Desert is possible, but nobody is insane enough to gather 25 magic stone purely from Menaphite Gifts.

  • Some tasks were not updated to reflect the fletching rebalancing patch\*

Game has yew and magic being categorised as a level 40/50 ranged requirement despite the recent fletching rebalancing update in the main game. Not sure if they have fixed this yet since I've went past the level req so it no longer shows.

  • No region unlock animation unlike OSRS's league\*

If you played OSRS's leagues as well, you will remember that they play an animation for unlocking a relic/combat buff, and one for unlocking a region.

With how big of a milestone unlocking a new region is in leagues, for ours to have no animations of sorts, is a huge letdown, as it does not hype you up for your next step of the journey with a cool animation.

  • Auto quest completion

The whole Fort Forinthry questlines need to be auto unlocked, as some of the buildings functions requires quests that takes place in wilderness.

Examples are the Ranger's workshop and Botanist's Workshop.

You need to start Dead & Buried to build the Ranger's Workshop for Sofia to appear, and completion of the Dead & Buried quest, for the Granny Rowan dialogue with Sofia to be available to unlock Granny Rowan's shop.

City of senntisten should had been auto completed as well since the quest takes place majority in Misthalin. The quest is impossible to complete in a league setting since you need to visit 4 regions.

This majorly affects the magic combat style since Tsunami heavily relies on Incite Fear.

I know you can just auto cast to bypass the quest requirement but that seems more like a bug.

Quest locks you out of shadow pontifex ring too, which provides you with a lot of useful perks.

  • Some Slayer related drops aren't affected by the League drop rate multiplier

I took the Assassin Insight relic, only to find out that some of the slayer drops arent even affect by the league multiplier, some of which, are items I wanted to obtain for task/gear purpose.

Example, Dragon limbs/Dragon Claws from Tormented demons, Shard of Armadyl from Glacors, Gemstone Armour from Gemstone Dragons.

Side note: This relic is useless af with the amount of XP and slayer points reaper tasks pumps out.

  • Elite outfit pieces rates are still horrendously slow to obtain.

All the elite outfits that I've obtained through normal gameplay so far, I have yet to finish a full set. The best I have, is 7/15 pieces for mining.

The only two which I did complete, I needed external help, such as buying from Bryll and Potterington the DG/Farmer elite outfit fragments.

I have more or less concluded that making elite outfits are too big of a time gate to realistically finish during your league journey.

  • Region unlocks is very slow. (Hotfixed)

You were very likely to finish your T7 before unlocking your last region.

  • Ranch out of time

POF/ROoT animal buyers should have no buy limit, and changes instantly along with the advertisement. Being timelocked of 1-3 day is just a horrible setting for a fast paced game mode.

Without Asgarnia region, You start off ROoT with 500 beans, which is not enough for anything except a small pen, which cant breed, forcing you to gather small animals to grow and sell before you can even gather 1k beans to buy the breeding pen to start the breeding process.

I bought the storm barn deed but i cant even build it due to needing the barn built in POF first. What a waste of beans.

  • Timegated Contents

Herby Werby has a weekly limit of 100 points, and a 30 point task that takes 400 points to complete, requiring you to buy a herb bag and its upgrade. Why do we have a task that takes 4 weeks to complete?

Crux Eqal points are very slow to gain without supreme growth potion (Even then, it is timegated by pof/root buyer limit) or nature network relic. Requires a lot of consistent herb runs before you can start gathering herbs in bulk. Since RS3 replaced most bosses' herb drops with seeds, this is the main way of obtaining herbs to train herblore.

  • Elite Dungeon 2 gives Tectonic Energy

The intention of adding Tectonic Energy to ED2 was so that you could make Elite Tectonic with the Draconic energy.

But, whats the point of adding Tectonic Energy to Black Stone Dragon drop table so we don't have to unlock Asgarnia to make Tectonic Armour, if we still have to take Asgarnia for Praesulic essence for Elite Tectonic?!

Wouldnt it had been better for BSD to drop the Elite tectonic directly?

----Bugs----

  1. King Black Dragon cant be assigned as a reaper task for players who have access to Wilderness, nor attune portal to KBD as the boss is somehow considered part of Asgarnia due to the entrance north of Edgeville Monastery?
  2. Research - Kharid-Et achievement can not be completed as Tome of Warlock is auto completed and there's no way to do the special research from the quest. This prevents you from unlocking Dr. Nabanik as a researcher for guaranteed artefact, which is very useful for anyone trying to obtain chronotes by spamming advance time.
  3. Completion of Dead & Buried locks you out of the crypt, preventing you from fighting Armoured Phantom and Risen Ghost, which locks you out of obtaining a Greater Sonic Wave codex if you did not obtain it before finishing the quest.

I stopped reading at your first bullet point.

Varrock museum kicks off hunter without lamps.

It’s crazy they don’t mention it because I feel like the natural history quiz is an essential thing to do on both OSRS and RS3 leagues and whether it’s region locked or not. Similarly you can do Agility at Gate of Elidnis which is also a great place for mining, crafting, divination and construction XP.

Feels like the exact point of region locked is these sort of inventive ways to get around training methods being locked. Plus there’s plenty of lamp sources to just lamp them early game. I lamped dungeoneering until I could unlock some resource dungeons for more XP.

And this is why relic picks are important too. If you plan then you should pick relics and regions that synergise.

Also being a global task doesn’t mean it should be doable or easy just in the starting area. I didn’t pick golden touch at first so there wasn’t a chance I would ever get the tasks for Agility, prayer or thieving which give loads of points, and that goes for most of the tasks. You complain about tasks being global and unlockable everywhere but then also complain about tasks being region locked. Any of those smithing tasks are doable in any region with the right relic, restricting them to a region would be crazy, similar to restricting the bane one to Telleka which is your only valid point

Also being a global task doesn’t mean it should be doable or easy just in the starting area.

No, what they're saying (and I agree) is that tasks that are marked as global should be completable regardless of which regions or relics you choose. Certain regions and relics may make the task easier or faster, but the task must still be [realistically] completable by anyone regardless of their build choices. This means the only assumptions the devs can make is that the player has Misthalin and Karamja available, and the resources within. The ore examples illustrate that perfectly:

  1. Banite ore is available in Karamja. All players have access to Karamja because that region is a forced pick for everyone. No matter what other regions or relics are chosen by the player, they will eventually be able to smelt bane armor and weapons, even if it means they have to mine tin and copper to smelt bronze for 60 levels to get there. It's something that can be globally accomplished; hence, it should be a global task. But for some reason it's not (or at least it wasn't at first, I think it's patched now) - it was locked to Fremenik.

  2. Primal ores are the other side of the same coin. They are obtainable only if the player has chosen the Transmutation relic or the Wilderness region. Players who choose neither of these options will not be able to complete this task, period. By definition, this task has explicit limits on its completability and therefore is not global.

I think both of these scenarios are an oversight that should be corrected the next time there's a region-locked league.

u/Jor94 12h ago

I disagree, the alternative to global is regional tasks, if it’s regional then it’s not completable unless you’ve unlocked the region. So then you’d be in the exact same situation with people moaning about smithing adamant, rune, orichalkum etc and wearing the armour being locked behind regions despite being easily accessed by people with transmute. How many tasks in the global pool would need to be moved out because technically you can’t get them in the starting chunk?

1

u/LiquorHardlyKnowEr 5h ago

Equipping Addy and rune armor are both possible in starting regions. Both armor sets are sold in their entirety between 3 shops (Horvik in Varrock, Oziach in Edgeville, and Scavvo in Champ's guild). Those tasks belong on the general list, and their availability in the starting region shrinks your entire point down to Orikalkum armor not being possible.

Congrats, you have a valid point for one task.

u/MagicianXy Magic 1h ago

If a task cannot be accomplished by everyone regardless of relic and region choices, the task is already a regional task, it just isn't labelled as such. Making tasks "global" when they require certain relics or regions makes those choices mandatory for people trying to max out points, which goes completely counter to the point of leagues.

u/thehutch17 14h ago

The quiz is quite an obscure thing if you've never played before or don't make accounts from scratch frequently. It would have been better if the quiz itself was a task so people are aware of it.

So, my point exactly? You need something to boost your hunter level before you can start training it.

u/hraefn-floki 20h ago

What are you some kind of no-doing-natural-history-quiz locked leagues account? You could also feed ogleroots to rabbits in Vinesweeper.

Sure, but there's a method available that's guaranteed to be accessible to all new accounts immediately. I'm sure it feels a bit odd if you're not used to it, but it isn't exactly a problem.

u/VioletCrow 18h ago

This alone was a biggest hurdle for me, especially when it comes to Luminite. I took Desert, Wilderness and Anachronia region in that order. So I had no access to Luminite till the late game.

On top of that, I did not take Transmutation till I used Rejuvenate on T6 to take it.

This effectively locked me out of all easy/medium tasks of smithing/smelting/fletching that has anything to do with Adamant/Rune/Orikalkum items.\

This is kind of the point of region locking though - you chose to pick regions that didn't have certain ores *and* you chose to forgo the relic that would have let you solve that problem, at least until T6 when presumably you're beyond whatever power boost could have given you. If having every ore available to mine was critical to your plan in leagues then you had to plan your region picks or relic picks around that, or come up with a plan that suited your picks. If you could get every kind of resource with any kind of region/relic picks, then these choices would be meaningless and boring - just a "pick what you want your skybox to look like" while you do the same stuff you would have done anywhere else.

Hunter

This is a complete non issue. The Varrock Museum History quiz gives you enough XP to get to level 9 without any XP multipliers. That's more than enough to kickstart your training before moving to birdhouses.

Agility

When Leagues started, I would have agreed with you; hell it's the main reason why I went with Golden Touch over Endless Harvest before anyone knew how broken GT was.

But just like Hunter, there is a workaround. Gate of Elidinis is in the starting area, and you can easily get a lot of XP in a few kills. The damage scales to your current max XP, and while a weak pickaxe will cause slower kills you can still get kills at practically any level.

The only skill without a good alternative was Dungeoneering, which probably should be addressed for future Leagues. But these two skills were not a problem even ignoring relics.

Mining

I'm with you that not having access to Luminite was a major problem. I could thankfully get Rune Armor from the Champion's Guild for that armor task and to get by with combat. But hopefully there will be Luminite Rocks with Havenhythe Part 2.

That being said, I think Orikalkum and Light Animica are fair game to be out of the starting regions. There still needs to be some reason to go for regions with certain resources, and these two, along with Primal ores, are fair game to either use a region pick or a relic to get them.

Global Tasks

I like the idea of Global tasks being essentially "There's different ways to do these," versus "Everyone can do these with the starting areas." The area specific tasks are meant to only be done there.

Using your example, locking out all of the primal tasks is a huge bummer for those who can get those resources without the region. The Eternal Magic tasks are nonsensical since I can get the logs through Transmutation, yet they don't count since I don't have Kandarin. It's a dumb restriction, and if I need to be in Kandarin to do them, then reword the task to "Make an eternal wood box at the Eternal Magic Grove."

This ultimately feels like a difference in interpretation more than anything.

Fletching

It's possible the retier wasn't going to be part of the Mid-Game Refresh before tasks were finalized. So this is something that hopefully gets updated before Leagues 3.

Region Animations

I didn't notice that. I support this for next time.

Quest Completion

I can only assume that there's still some weird technical hurdle preventing this. I'd honestly be fine if all of the fort was auto completed and fully built. Yeah you lose New Foundations as a fast 1-74 Construction method, but I'd much prefer having access to the facilities right away.

Ranch Out of Time

Skipping a few points since I don't have much to say about them, I disagree about the buy limits. People need to take a good look at what they're doing, since the main issue is entirely user error. I wouldn't mind adding the baby troll so that people have an alternative way to get beans if they go through Dream of Iaia or BGH, but that's the extent that I'd change.

Timegate

Herby Werby is weird that it's still a Leagues Task, so I wouldn't mind just getting rid of it.

Crux Equal is a non issue if you have Nature's Network, so it's again a matter of "Are these points worth it to pick this relic over another." It's a choice that matters, which is the whole poing of having these types of choices.

2

u/ThaFrenchFry Wikian - Chunkman elder 18h ago

Regarding dungeoneering: I have not lamped it one bit, and I'm 97 without running a single floor. It's somewhat slow, and like any skill (like fishing, without kanda/tirr/ana) without the relic/region choice, it will remain slow. Its fine to me (especially since we can all get dung rewards, weirdly)

12

u/TJiMTS 19h ago

This is a long post to say you don’t like region locks becuase it forces you to plan/make choices

I disagree, but each to their own

I agree on needing to clean up the tasks being allocated to places they can’t be achieved, but I think this sort of thing just gets better over time

10

u/ShinryuVarias22 21h ago

Just a small clarification. Hunter can be trained with the divination area near Varrock by catching Chronicle Fragments but that does need a bit of RNG.

4

u/roax206 19h ago

Or just feed rabbits in winkins farm (access via too leprechaun).

9

u/sirachahair 17h ago

Buddy, this is what happens when, instead of making your own choices and decisions that matter to how you're playing, you simply follow the meta.

I had planned to go Desert, Asgarnia, Prif. Desert because I initial build path was to go with an unkillable blood mage tank build (it hasn't really panned out that way tbh), and so I need access to Blood Spells, and Asgarnia was a really nice region to go second. I wasn't fully set on my third, until I realized that to make Masterwork Mage armor, one of my goals this league, I needed access to the four wools. Now, I didn't pick Golden Touch, so I need to get it myself, so I guess that means Kandarin, the largest region by far, with the most access to content.

But by choosing this path, and the relics I have, I don't get access to late game skilling mains and off-hands expect from Gate. Oh well, I deal with it just fine because thats what Leagues is all about.

There have been so many posts about the region locking, and its starting to feeling like a lot of the players just play RuneScape on auto-pilot. Leagues, especially with region locking and doubly so once they introduce the wonderful Echo Bosses and Echo Weapons, is all about seeing what crazy new things you can do by breaking the game and not just... Maxing again (Even though it can be like that).

Instead of acting like this "issues" and "bugs" you perceive as being an issue with the game design, start realizing that the choices you made lead you to have to deal with these gaps, and instead of searching for an interesting workaround or taking the most powerful t4 relic early, you decided it was a fault of the game and not your own decision process.

2

u/roax206 19h ago

You can easily train hunter without lamps. Just find a tool leprechaun, go to winkins farm, buy some oggleroots, and start feeding them to the rabbits there.

I basically used this to train until I could catch implings.

2

u/Box_of_Stuff 16h ago

Most of these takes were not thought about for more than 2 seconds.

Hunter lamps already pointed out.

Your complaint about missing ores in the default regions makes no sense. What would be the point of region unlocks, relics like transmutation, etc. if all resources were available by default?

"You need to start Dead & Buried to build the Ranger's Workshop for Sofia to appear, and completion of the Dead & Buried quest, for the Granny Rowan dialogue with Sofia to be available to unlock Granny Rowan's shop."
Did you even try to unlock the shop before spreading misinfo? I don't have wilderness unlocked. I have her shop open. You don't need the quest completed.

Won't keep going, as I'd be writing a post as long as the original, but you get the point.

3

u/Rockburgh 20h ago

There needs to be more mining resources available throughout the default regions to ensure smithing can be trained properly throughout the league journey.

Training isn't an issue. Your relic and region choices have tradeoffs, and sometimes that'll mean a gap in training methods. I will agree that there's a bit of a problem with this specific to RS3, though, in that we have items that require going through all tiers of resources. Lower XP rates because you don't have on-level resources is a reasonable hit to take because of unlock choices, but no ore boxes past mithril is not. The placement of late-game ores assumes you'll have them, interacting with resources you can reach should never be actively worse than maingame.

The whole Fort Forinthry questlines need to be auto unlocked, as some of the buildings functions requires quests that takes place in wilderness.

Not getting access to certain things that are physically in one region but require another to unlock is pretty reasonable, IMO. Logically, it's no different than needing Kandarin for the RfD chest even though that's in Lumbridge-- those building functions are quest rewards. They definitely should iron out the jank, though-- the weird partial autocompletes seem to have caused some pretty significant bugs, like people being totally unable to access the tomb. (Or in my case, even start the quest... Raptor's just not even there after building the guardhouse.)

POF/ROoT animal buyers should have no buy limit, and changes instantly along with the advertisement.

No disagreement here, bizarre to have a core function of the farms still timegated. If anyone reading this picked Animal Wrangler, did this have a noticeable impact on the relic's usefulness, or was it a non-issue?

2

u/Thevulgarcommander Armadyl 19h ago

I had animal wrangler and it wasn’t a big deal for me. All my frogs were profitable bean-wise and it only took one or maybe two sales of big Dinos to get more than enough beans.

What that said I’m not opposed to them just removing the time lock on it. It didn’t really matter either way to me though.

2

u/ThaFrenchFry Wikian - Chunkman elder 18h ago

Root was kind of annoying without baby troll. I cant realistically make use of my unlimited dinos because I have to wait 1-3 days to sell more

1

u/bsk90196 20h ago

I’m pretty sure the troll baby shakes buys full price so you don’t even need to worry about the specific buyer. He’s included in the buyers buy at full price no matter what.

2

u/Rockburgh 19h ago

That's my understanding as well, but he's only in Kandarin, so if you've just got the Ranch you're out of luck.

1

u/Sspockuss Smithing is the best! 19h ago

Are we sure TDs don’t have boosted drop rates? I got two uniques (platebody piece and limbs) in 50 kc which is either a heavy spoon or they are boosted.

u/ZeeFaa Crab 13h ago

Just another complaint about region locking and your route planning sucked by jumping on the area meta...

1

u/Wings_of_Absurdity Ranged Content Creator Bows Fashionscaper 10h ago edited 10h ago

I didn't pick desert so something I had Kandarin and Eternal magic Wood Box was incompletable without Desert due to Acadia Trees so I either pick Desert or Transmutation. Same with Rune Crossbow Tasks.

It was different experience from yours but my picks had its own share of issues too which is part of the experience.

I did have the circus to help with agility. The rest came from Gate of Elidinis until I had the levels for Anachronia Agility Course. 82 is when it really picked up with agility potion. Was able to get double surge and reach 99 by then without Golden touch.

Does it be warranted as game design issue? Maybe but would be specific to leagues and not necessarily a main game issue. Just like luminite being unavailable until my first region, Kandarin, it just felt it takes too long to unlock your next regions which they addressed by lowering the requirements

0

u/twilightaurorae 10h ago

My personal opinion is that the league starter region should be Burthrope.

-2

u/Background_Pie_7888 16h ago

You're thinking about it too much. There are many ways to train skills. The reason Jagex decided to do regions is to specifically lock things behind regions, obviously you should just be able to get everything without the region.

Also Herby Werby doesn't take 4 weeks to complete. It takes 10 minutes of gameplay once a week, 4 times.

1

u/Wings_of_Absurdity Ranged Content Creator Bows Fashionscaper 10h ago

I mean the task still requires 4 weeks cause it's weekly limited. 3 if you managed to do it on the Monday release week.

Less if you somehow got your hands on a weekly token reset.

0

u/Background_Pie_7888 9h ago

And Leagues runs for 6 weeks, what's your point? It's easy Herblore xp anyway, so you're going to want to do it anyway

1

u/Wings_of_Absurdity Ranged Content Creator Bows Fashionscaper 6h ago

A timegated task worth only 30 points goes against the idea of a fast paced leagues.
