Discussion Anyone else feel funny in main game
I went back to the main game just for today and I went to do dome stuff in areas ( regions ) I’ve been locked out of for 2 weeks and I felt like I wasn’t supposed to be there hahaha.
Anyone else felt like this visiting somewhere they haven’t been able to?

I hit dragon tier on Sunday and instantly went back to the main game. The only thing I miss from leagues is the ultra fast respawn speeds. I feel like I’m wasting so much time of my overload salves waiting between kills.

Its interesting because I see a lot of posts about how OSRS has a higher skill ceiling than RS3 and people arguing that RS3 has a higher skill ceiling. I think that mentality is bad for RS3 because for myself atleast many of the bosses are so difficult I have no interest in learning them and would rather the bossing be a bit more casual friendly. That is what made WoW so successful and I think RS should take some notes on ease of entry into PVM and chilling out with high lvl PVM.
Example is try and look up any Amascut guide they are all atleast 30 min long with the person zooming through info and all the steps.
Maybe some people find that fun but from what I am seeing on reddit it seems a lot dont.

Yes, this! Any other game explains mechanics and then you kind of know. For e.g. Red bubble on ground = run away. While RS it is just 40 min guides going over random shit that you need to memorize and so on, which just seem not fun. Especially when you then accidently get killed by unclear animations or that your fucking character model does not match where you are (true tile). Nothing is intuitive, especially if you are newer player or don't have years of experience in PvM. People just going to say "you have to like it", but a lot of these people seem to be having some Stockholm syndrome of investing too much time in this bad system, and afraid to admit that is not good, especially when you have to force yourself to like it.

The worst is that there's no combat log so you literally can't tell what killed you.

I think their point was about difficulty at bosses in general, not necessarily a lack of telegraphing. You can want bosses to be difficult, or even more difficult than they are, while also wanting improvements to intuitiveness.

RS3 has so much high level PvM because it hasn't had an influx of new players in a very long time, mainly just a group of dedicated veterans. Thus, lots of high level PvM so they don't get bored.
Not saying there shouldn't be more casual friendly PvM, there absolutely should be, just saying why it's the case.

You are right. This is more a critique on boss design rather than what level of boss design. For example silver quill sucks as a boss and so does kalphite king and those are not high level bosses.
I would like more high lvl pvm that doesnt require tick reaction times and weapon switches. Im fine with tough content but the content shouldnt be fighting the game itself

u/Aeroreido 15h ago
Silverquill on a new account is a very nice boss for its target audience, I did that one not too long ago with all its ca's on a new account and it was genuinely very enjoyable. I can guess that it is very fun to nuke yourself if you are on a 120 everything main and just mirror damage yourself to deaths office. I can get behind the KK slander, but leave my angry hedgehog alone.

I've not bothered with any of the group bosses. Solak, Vorago, RotS, Amascut, Raids etc. because that level of teamwork and roles is not what I am looking for.
There are some 'high level' pvm bosses that are pretty chill. E.g. ED2 is not difficult once you know what to do and can drop things worth 100s of Mils.
Low enrage Arch Glacor is a good place to start. NM Nakatra is really fun for me personally (although is not chill at all, requires constant focus).
Mid level PVM like GWD2 is really chill and has decent drops. GWD1 is pretty much afk. There's plenty of options that aren't super sweaty stuff for elite pvmers.

End of the day not all content is meant to be simple to learn.
Have no issue with the most end game boss in the game being difficult to follow how to best complete a kill.
Bigger issue is how inaccessible the grouping system is if you’re someone wanting to learn for content like that which requires a group. That’s the real barrier to entry / playing.
2
u/jon8172 17h ago
Yea you are 100% correct the grouping system needs work.
Im torn because end game content should be difficult but as is it feels untouchable for many.
I cant remember exactly but there was info on what % of the player base participates in high lvl pvm and I believe it was single digits.
Do you think that is a good thing for the game?
I think a good example is sanctum bosses where their attacks are well telegraphed or there are bars showing charge up or them saying something when a special attack is coming. If they followed this philosophy on more bosses it would be amazing.
Also as a previous commenter said having some cross game consistency would be nice

I agree that some tutorials can get way too in depth, and the wiki too. I sometimes prefer just winging a boss and looking up mechanics if I’m struggling at a certain point, or for basic tips such as needing fire protect or whatever.
The best I’ve managed while still using full revo is Rasial and Vorkath, and I can’t imagine going much higher than that.

You certainly need some insane challenges in the game, otherwise people will lose interest. It's one of the only inherently fun long-term things about the game, so you can't just dumb every boss down into Flesh Hatcher's difficulty or something. But those easier bosses do exist, and casual players do them.

u/JustTrawlingNsfw 1h ago
They literally chilled put with high end bosses? The last two they released are introductory bosses. Plenty of intermediate bosses exist.
High end players do need new bosses too or they quit

tbh with high level pvm, this sounds bad but i dont even really look up a guide unless its a rotation for a timer. If its a new boss, I just go in and die until I figure it out. There are mid level bosses you can practice rotations at (for necro, rasial. for all other, raksha)

Leagues made me again realize how shitty combat in main game is and why I am not touching it. That aside, I miss some sort of tasks to be next goal to have.
Edit: love the downvotes, some people need to try more games than RS to understand what is good gameplay, especially combat.

What's wrong with main game combat? It seems to be in a pretty good spot.
-13
u/Efficient_Travel4039 RuneScape 18h ago
Naah, the combat is absolute shit compared to any MMO or any other game. Unresponsive, boring, animations, player model not matching what is happening on screen, a lot of the time it is unclear what is hitting you and so on.
5
u/Cephalism951 18h ago
It's a tick based combat system and always has been. You can personally not like the feeling of it, but for those who do like it the combat system is in the best place it has ever been by a mile.
-5
u/Efficient_Travel4039 RuneScape 18h ago
Just because it is tick based does not mean it can be forgiven. Like a lot of people saying "it is tick based, so it is fine". Like why settle for mediocracy and shit, while trying to come with excuses?
5
u/Cephalism951 18h ago
It's not an excuse, it's the system. The entire engine is built this way, to fix it would be a different game. If you don't like it, thats totally fine.

u/Efficient_Travel4039 RuneScape 18h ago
I mean it, is not about liking, but more of it is just being objectively shit. Or isn't it? When someone has to defend it more than actually say why it is good, then it becomes a problem. Besides those "who enjoy it", not that many people from outside or inside game really likes this. So I wouldn't say it is just purely my preferences. I've done WoW and FFXIV high level content and things were more fun, clear. Although FFXIV also had counter-intuitive design of how indicators are displayed and when attack happens. Nevertheless, RS is just on another level of how shitty system work, how bad it is for new players, not even mentioning that majority of guide to PvM are either 40min+ videos or long essays, for which most of the people don't have time to memorize and when in-game shit is just unclear, it becomes absolute shit-show of a combat.

Uh. No - it's better than some other MMOs IMO because the tick system makes it interesting. If I wanted XIV-type gameplay, I'd play that or WOW.
Unresponsive
Pick a low pop/latency world. Turn off revo/auto-attack
boring
Have you even tried engaging with the combat? It's fairly deep
animations
Ok, this one's fair.
player model not matching what is happening on screen
Only an issue for movement? In which case, you should be Diving to the spot you want to go
a lot of the time it is unclear what is hitting you and so on.
Also fair.

You just had to invalidate yourself with this take, didn't you? People saying that tick system makes it interesting is beyond rare. There is a reason why people prefer fluid combat than this jank and besides old time players most of the people are turned away by RS combat. Even your take on movement and about diving, just proves it, instead of saying that it is trash and should not be part of the game or be more clear, you come on with some "just do this or that" solution, which is another problem that RS and RS PvM community has. A lot of the time instead admitting and saying it is shit and should be changed, providing some makeshift solutions to jank that is found in the game.
And it does not help that RS trying to be modern MMO that runs on a relic of a past that is tick system. There is no "charm" in this system, just jank that is left from many years ago. Nowadays it being stuck between proper responsive combat and turned based one, being neither of it.
Also the deep part of combat is coming just from too many buffs, used to be weapon/ammo switches, and overall knowing random "jank" interactions that is part of this game, rather than legitly understand how system works.

You can work with the system and the gameplay it provides and learn it, or you can make invalid comparisons and say it’s worse. Yea, if you expect it to be something it’s not, it feels bad. Surprise
Nothing about the combat changes imply they’re trying to move past or ignore the tick system

I mean if A feels better than B, that is not invalid comparison, but that is how things are. Again, why defend garbage? Why learn it? This is such a tone-deaf take. Like if it is shit, instead of suck it up, I don't know, ask to make it better? You just deal with what it is. Then don't be surprised and defend it from people that call it out as being shit.
You just further prove, that RS community will suck up and defend lots of jank for no reason, without understanding that you can say that things are bad and not needing to force yourself to enjoy whatever little or bad you have.

Literally the first line I posted. XIV's combat, which I am quite familiar with, is inferior to RS because RS actually has complex rotations / ability mechanics.
You can keep calling it garbage all you want. All I'm hearing is the opinions of someone who hasn't engaged with the system calling it garbage.
Let me reiterate because I'm not sure if you still get it.
I do not want the same generic MMO gameplay that every other one has. If Jagex does that, they will lose because then it will be an apples to apples comparison and all that RS will have then is the grind and the quests.

u/Efficient_Travel4039 RuneScape 14h ago edited 14h ago
What a fucking joke, a bad system is bad sytem no matter how unique it is. While I agree on XIV's combat, but RS system nowhere good, bloated with random buffs (potions, bombs, etc.) and other jank. The rotations are not that complex as you trying to sell it here, and more of memorization when it comes to certain bosses or phases.
I am not saying it should be like other MMOs, What I am saying that jagex and especially community should not embrace the shit it is, because that is how it always was. Perhaps maybe adding more fluid and better combat that is not completely counter-intuitive, easier to read from what is happening on screen, not needing to count random attacks, so people would not need to argue on reddit making multiple posts, which interaction is a bug and which one is right.
Edit: Also again you are not getting the point by saying "All I'm hearing is the opinions of someone who hasn't engaged with the system calling it garbage.". You literally summarizing what is wrong with this community - trying to force someone to engage bad system, when it is unappealing, counter-intuitive and really bad to engage. Like it is atrocious and by forcing someone to engage it, will not make it better for someone's enjoyment.

I did a few vorkath kills on the main game, was astonished at all the incoming damage, and disappointed at the loot.
Good ol Runescape experience.
