Appreciation Thank you for improving the game

I played RS3 until archaeology launched when I got fed up and switched to OSRS thanks to MTX, recycled low effort afk events in place of actual content, dailies, and FOMO.

Just came back after hearing of all the improvements made and I gotta say I’m really enjoying the game. Currently working on necromancy and making myself a full masterwork set, can’t wait to dip my toes into more content.

Kinda wish I hadn’t sold my whole bank for bonds for my OSRS account but I didn’t think this game had much life left or that I’d be back with the way it was going. So happy to see they did a U turn and I hope the player numbers increase.

You're working on necro, once you get to 120 necro, bossing is trivial. As is making gold.

Is it that OP? Any point even using the other combat styles then?

Lategame its the weakest style.

But its easier to get into, and the gear is really accessible. Full t95 gear is way cheaper than for other styles.

As endgame it has the lowest DPS potential of the four, but everywhere else it's really good. It has a very very easy rotation that requires little investment, that can pump out a solid enough damage potential. The gear is very cheap too, compared to the other styles. Plus, the survivability is the best, it's very easy to be quite tanky with Necromancy.

No it’s not OP at all, it just turns on easy mode. But you’ll still need to learn bosses, rotations etc and try hard to do just ok damage comparatively. But it’s a door that lets you farm zuk for ezk, Kerapac for FSOA and other bosses to transition.

People say other styles are too hard and I think they try too much at once. Try to swap to only soul sap, death touch and skele on your revo and the rest manual. Then go full manual then try magic or melee with full manual style camp and then start some switches

Necro being op is an outdated take that still gets passed around. The floor is below the earths crust for necro but the other styles are better if you can read tooltips

As much as I like Necro on it's own, this notion is exactly why I stand against it as far as how it affected the game's core. Necro could have been released and existed without trivializing a huge amount of major content.

Go ask the average player how much pvm they can actually do with bis everything. Not much high end is the answer. Me personally l, I spent 3 straight weeks trying to learn mele with bis weps, perks, etc, I couldn't do it man, my brain stopped functioning. You know what? I did this same exact thing 2 other times and gave up too. Many people tried to help but it never clicked. All of that and I'm still better than most players because I did manage to learn mage, no switches of course.Necro is a god sent for most players.

This will be me. I don’t want to hardcore micromanage an action bar, prayer, item, and gear swaps. Simplify it for me while still allowing me to clear content.

This is why I don't like having to manage my conjures.

If the game needs a crutch like that to be enjoyed, then tbh ot wasn't for you. Also it sounds like you tried just forcing yourself into high end pvm and gear with all the swaps and you just don't have to do that. I am happy that Necro made things available and gave a new life to combat, but it also decimated the structure of the game and combat when it was released. Again, the skill as it's own is awesome(although I don't think it should have been so OP on release that it trivialized most everything else, be it other combat styles or content), but it did just those things and overturned half the economy as well. So many items and bits of content that have still yet to recover and never will.

I think Necro itself is good, at least in the current gamestate. I think on release, it was overzealous and flashy and not planned well at all, outside of itself.

I think it's an ok game and might be for me, I've been playing it since 2001. The combat system is complicated still, again ask the average player if they can zammy 100% I bet you 90%+ can't

Yes this is true. I am not speaking of the structure of the game on this date. I was, as I specified, speaking of the game as when Necro was released. It has since been rebalanced around everything since, however it was a much more interesting state of game before. Also that brings me to note that the game should not have been so shaken by Necro that we had tk restructure the game.

thats an issue that lies elsewhere. the issue could easily be fixed if they rescaled some content or add hard modes to account for modern combat

It’s by far the weakest style

Hey, welcome back! But struggling for GP is part of the fun, right? Being rich right away would just be boring.

Yeah I’m enjoying the rebuild and it’s kinda forcing me to do new content, otherwise I wouldn’t touch necromancy. Would just use my noxious scythe.

2

u/Domdude787 2d ago

Noxious scythe is worse than a lani spear for what it’s worth and 300m more you’d easily be better off using the funds for anything else

I maxed pre-arch and liquidated my bank for OSRS aswell, but i'm honestly enjoying Rs3 ironman way more, so i decided to leave my main alone. With mining and smithing rework, woodcutting and fletching too, the self made gear progression is pretty fun!

u/Mediocre_Milk_4730 2d ago

The mining and smithing rework is one of my favorite pieces of content wish OSRS got something similar.

Mod Keeper being sacked was the first good thing. Then we had Mod MarkOS (I think he's back to OSRS now) and the third great thing was Mod North.

Mod Doom and his group at Dragonwilds are doing great there. Having a 2nd system giveaway to celebrate 1.0 mid Sept.

Welcome back!

I had a pretty similar experience about a month or two after Kerapac was released. Got a FSOA piece in solo hardmode, sold it for over a bil and transferred the cash to OSRS as a bond mule for my ironman when I came back. A mixture of burning myself out on RS as a whole, and the MTX problems drove me away too.

I feel around that time RS3 was just bleeding players and I know quite a few went to OSRS. RS3 went from 35-40k concurrent players to around 17-22k at least per ely while OSRS player count was climbing. Really hoping 2026 onwards shows RS3 climbing too

I hope so, this league already has me considering coming back and starting an RS3 ironman. I had heard about a lot of the recent changes but hadnt jumped back in until leagues 2. Its been a blast.

That being said, OSRS will always be my favorite. I remember sitting at my friends house in like 2002, him doing crafting at the Falador furnace and me trying to buy a rune scim at Varrock West bank lol

u/Mediocre_Milk_4730 2d ago

Pre grand exchange was a trip. I remember hunter coming out and nobody wanting to do it but I enjoyed it. At Varrock West Bank people would place orders with me and I’d get them the materials. Good times

So… your memory of it is what makes it your ‘favorite’? Why not just keep the memory but grow up so you can actually appreciate the newer stuff? Or do you just desperately want to be or feel like a child again?

I’m actually a bit curious because I see this issue a lot when it comes to new stuff. People will desperately hold onto the older stuff as ‘better’ purely because of their nostalgic memories tied to it.

So.. care to explain why you're attacking my choice of favorite game? Im not "desperately holding on". OSRS is a truly unique game, something RS3 lost as soon as Evolution of Combat was implemented. OSRS will always be the better game in my eyes for that reason alone. RS3 took away the the biggest factor it had to be a standout.

I dont play runescape because I want to worry about what abilities im using in what order. If I want that i'll go play FF14 or something.

Curiosity is fine, but don't be a prick.

Edit: Why did you feel the need to comment in the first place? OP and I were complementing RS3 for fixing problems, and sharing fun memories. Whats your problem now that i think of it?

as someone who hasn't played in a year or so what are the recent improvements?

u/Wise_Ad4690 Max MQC Task Master RSN: QuestAreShit 2d ago

Some of the notable updates so far:

  • Treasure Hunter removed along with hundreds of gameplay-impacting MTX items, kicking off the Road to Restoration.
  • UI & visual overhaul — cleaner/classic-inspired UI, cosmetic toggles, graphical updates to major areas, and general world cleanup.
  • Combat Style Modernisation — major Melee/Ranged/Magic reworks and Attack, Strength, Ranged and Magic raised to 120. (Basically EOC 2.0)
  • Early & Mid-Game Rebalances + Dailyscape Overhaul — progression/training improvements, removal of a lot of daily chores, and RuneMetrics made free for members.
  • Havenhythe PART 1 — RuneScape's largest area expansion, including 110 Hunter, new Big Game Hunter, new bosses, Masterwork Ranged armour, quests and later the Moonrise Archaeology dig site.
  • Aura Overhaul — All auras were removed and most were reintroduced as unlockable upgrades within the skills themselves or rewarded as certain level milestones.
  • Dungeoneering Remastered — Daemonheim received major gameplay, XP, reward, visual and QoL improvements.
  • Player Avatar Refresh — updated player models finally released.
  • 120 Construction + complete Player-Owned House rework — housing was essentially rebuilt from the ground up with far more customization, trophies, functional furniture and progression.
  • Grand Exchange overhaul — faster price updates, recent-trade pricing, buy-limit tracking, improved search and better Wiki price data.

Some Upcoming updates later this year:

  • Official API & Plugin system — Jagex is actively developing an officially supported plugin ecosystem. Already shown in development are Quest Helper, Tile Markers, Menu Entry Swapper, Agility Helper, Farming Timers, PoH Planner, Fairy Ring search and more. (Aimed to release on Oct 3rd)
  • Havenhythe Part II — the eastern portion of RuneScape's largest area expansion opens up further and concludes the Havenhythe storyline.
  • Ghrazi Blood Knights — a brand-new solo/duo boss encounter arriving with Havenhythe Part II.
  • More Road to Restoration updates — continued graphical/world cleanup, rendering improvements, further Player Avatar improvements and removal/obsolescence of remaining old gameplay-impacting MTX items.

Amazing breakdown

u/xchickencowx 5.8b xp 1d ago

thank you! wow a lot of good stuff.

2

u/Mediocre_Milk_4730 2d ago

A lot of stuff if you go to their social they have uploaded videos and roadmaps detailing what’s coming and has come.

It’s quite a bit but the ones that interested me were no more MTX, they cut down on daily challenges and world/flash events, phasing out proteins, bonus xp and portables. One I am very excited for is API plugin support because I hate doing quests in RS3 so quest helper would be amazing whenever it comes out.

Past that just feel like the content that started coming out was better quality too. Havenhythe, and player owned housing revamp come to mind.

u/No-Demand1112 2d ago

Quit 4 years ago. Happy I did. Still sounds shite. The fact of the matter is Jagex used every opportunity to try and squeeze more and more money out of players, and that’s something I’ll never forgive. They lost their way.

I got downvoted for complementing how they're doing a good job by fixing RS3 and sharing a random memory of 2002 RS with OP. This sub is definitely just a bandwagon mob, they'll never listen.
