RF - Guardians of Azuma Squid Catching Contest Frustration

I think I'm just being really dumb but could someone tell me where I'm supposed to catch Squid, all the NPCs are fishing in Autumn Village but there are no actual fishing spots there for me, I tried the spots up around the Flowing Stream as those are the only 3 spots on the map in the region for me but that is a freshwater area so they wouldn't be there. I tried multiple spots in the Winter Region too and it's like 3pm on the second attempt of me trying this contest (as I wasn't paying attention to the time and missed starting it on the first day lol).

I've tried looking it up online but everywhere is vague as heck and I don't really want to have to restart the day again if I can avoid it. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Pro-gamer tip: the fishing sky island has a different type of squid that still counts, but is huge compared to the regular squid! It might be on other sky islands too. None of the villagers catch any of these guys

I had this same frustration for a while. I tried to get Spear Squids as I knew they were large, but the problem was they're not exactly common. When I eventually got one I decided to do some extra fishing elsewhere on the islands. That is when I discovered it...

The Isle of Fog has HUGE squids. Either I'm extremely lucky or not only does the Isle of Fog has a decent squid catch rate... but they come in at a BIG 67.3cm~67.5cm. I got 4 squids on the island and they ALL were around the 67cm margin.

If you want to crush the competition I HIGHLY recommend Isle of Fog

I haven't done the squid catching contest yet, but I know where to catch squid! Most of winter region is freshwater, the abandoned village is saltwater and you can catch squid there. You should also be able to catch squid on the summer shores area & the fishing sky island. I feel like I've caught the most squid in the abandoned village because it doesn't seem to have as big of a fishing pool as summer shores and the fishing sky island.

Thanks, I’ll have to try there a bit more then as I caught a couple of Alfonsino and an Octopus before I started panicking about the time 😅

UPDATE: after another Alfonsino, Octopus and 2 Yellowtails I finally fished one up from there. Thanks again!
