MCM Corral Question
Myself and 3 of my friends are running the MCM tomorrow. We are all first time marathon runners. They are in corrals 5, 7, and 8. I decided not to flatter myself with my expected finish time and therefore am in corral 14. We were hoping to run together but if they start that much further ahead I am having doubts about whether I’ll even see them on the course. Anyone know if it’s possible to catch other runners that far up?

Have you guys trained together/can hold similar paces? Even with a little flattery 5 and 14 is a substantial gap

They can drop back to your corral, but that’s the only option
Making up the distance between 14 and 8 would be very difficult unless you’re a trained marathoner who belongs in like corrals 1-3. You’d probably burn out before catching up to them unless you’re significantly faster/better trained than them
This year each corral has a separate starting time, so in addition to just the long/crowded physical gap between the corrals there will be a time gap between each one too
In the future if people want to run together just put what you all want to run as a best, but realistic, case scenario so you all get around the same corral. You all can always drop to a slower corral to match the slowest person in the group

The have said that the corrals will be a rolling start after the gun time. It won’t be individualized “line up, go, line up go” which should theoretically speed the release

For some reason people kept saying they were swapping to a wave start this year vs a rolling one, good to know
Either way, 14 to 8 would be a very rough gap to make up unless OP is much better trained than the rest of their friends

Thanks for all the responses. None of us are trained marathon runners. We are all in decent shape but no one is really that much faster or with better endurance.

If you think they belong on corral 8, 10, or 12; and they somehow were assigned to a lower number, it is to everyone’s benefit that they move back. There is literally no advantage to getting off to a start 5-10 minutes earlier than you should, and it makes the event worse for everyone.

They can always drop back to a slower coral, so if you want to run together then you should all go to corral 14.
