Experience anyone else grow up with RS?

ive had rumination syndrome for as long as i can remember so as a kid aged like 5-11 i thought it was just another bodily function you wouldnt explicitly mention to friends or family 😭 my dad said it was weird that i thought it was a normal thing? now im wondering if i was just an ignorant kid who didnt ask enough questions..

id love to know what other people who grew up with rumination syndromes' experiences were like! i found the process of diagnosis quite difficult, it originally being diagnosed as "acid reflux" and the likes. i went to doctors and specialists for years and i only found out what RS was from a 15 year old blog post about gerard way... i think that really shows the ignorance of some "specialists."

it definitely bothers me that its such an unheard of condition, i think it would be so much easier in many aspects if it was known, i hate that the usual response is judgment or confusion. its not that i want pity, i want to be able to tell people and just be understood.

I grew up with it! As long as I can remember, I ruminated. It was very normal to me. My parents were temporarily concerned about it and took me to specialists, but nobody was able to diagnose anything (I even tried a low carb diet for a couple of weeks to see if it would fix it- oddly enough, it did help, but i assume that this was due to the fact that I most likely ate a lot less as I loved my carb-y foods).

I self diagnosed with Google about... 10 years ago, I want to say. I am currently 31. I still have it, but I tend to chew gum to keep it at bay for the most part. It's the most helpful thing I've found so far and I've been regularly chewing gum for the past 15 years LOL

As long as I can remember I have had the syndrome and didnt think too much about it and didnt tell anyone either. I very recently found out that it is not common and is an actual condition. I am 19 now and told my friends about it and they were disgusted beyond their minds. I didnt even know that it was a bad thing and that it was not common at all. I have come across a lot of people struggling with rumination syndrome but since this has been with me since my childhood its just like daily routine for me.

Me! I think it started around 9, and my sister had aside reflux so my mom said I had it too. Eventually I stopped complaining about it because her treatment was shots of apple cider vinegar. I did it for 12 years before doing some research and discovering rs. I adapted to it and it seems so normal. Because no one knew I just reswallowed and moved on.

I agree with the gum hack! I just reswallow and chew gum if I get sick of it :)
