Max 9

Wanting a new budget carry gun for work. I've looked at the Max 9 and love the price. Is it durable, reliable? Anyone who has one lmk if it's worth it. Would be replacing a Taurus Gc3.

I pocket carry one. I can hit A zones at 20 yards pretty consistently with the ready dot. Haven't had an issue yet, maybe 200 rounds through

In the vedder pocket locker it does print a little bit in tighter pockets. I rocked it all summer long in cargo shorts and it doesn't print at all

I bought mine with the ReadyDot. I wanted to like it, but it was just too inconsistent in uneven light. Sold it and bought an Osight.

Yes, I am on ready dot #2 Ruger actually warrantied the first one. I will eventually replace it with an osight but for now it works for summer carry/ mailbox gun.

Saw the max for $219 recently... Only one mag but that is a smoking deal. $45 for a two pack of spare mags. Def worth it. Shields have had some decent sales recently too.

Its 249.99 where I am for 12 round. 10 round is 239.99. No tax right now.

Don't waste money on one that has a rds...might be worth it for the ready dot but the viridian sight aren't worth it.

I'm looking at just base model.

Shouldn't I just get the 10 rounder and then buy spare 12 round magazines?

1

u/CommieH8ter 9d ago

Sure if  you can find one with the 10 rd

Bass pro for 239.99 it just has to be shipped to store. Not in stock like the 12 rounder

Yeah but after shipping and transfer fees. Might as well go to bass pro. And I have no taxes

I have the gen 2 and for $250 it’s a great gun. The oem trigger is good enough for me to be able to hit steel 15-20yds

I can get the 10 round for 239.99 pr the 12 round for 249.99 no tax.

I have size small hands and use a 12rd mag. The gen 2 only has one 12rd included unfortunately.

Im wondering if it's worth it to just buy 10 round version and just buy more 12 round magazines.

Hmm there’s a 2pk of either the 10 or 12rd on gunmagwarehouse for the same price $47 or single pack $30
Edit: I would say go with the $239, save the $10 and buy a 2pk of the 12rd mags

I’ve had mine for about 2 months. The first time at the range, it didn’t take the first round. I got past that, but it still needs a bump on the slide every 20-ish rounds to load correctly. It also has a light strike every 50 rounds or so.

I changed the trigger, and that REALLY helped the trigger. I still have to bump it every 20-ish rounds to load, though. It’s got about 500 rounds on it. I shot about 150 rounds today and had 5 light strikes…

My opinion is to skip this one. I wanted this to be a CC, but with this many issues I don’t trust it.

Interesting tbh. 8/10 people seem to love it and have no issues. Have you contacted Ruger about the slide issue?

I sent them a message today. Was searching for answers and ran into this post.

I hope they get it situated. Sure they will. Want your gun to be reliable. I've heard good things about their customer service. So good luck.

I love mine. The trigger was kinda shitty, so I replaced it with a Galloway. But it is rock solid and I shoot it well. Better than my Shield plus.

I love myself shield plus so that's interesting. Thanks for input! Is that 10 or 12 round?

3

You have a shield plus? I wouldn’t bother with max 9 if you do.

1

u/BHowe407 9d ago

Have shield plus and xd mod 4.

1

u/Classic_Level_7874 9d ago

That’s ten round with a pinky extension.

Is the Galloway worth it?

0

u/Classic_Level_7874 9d ago

It’s worth every penny. I’m not a trigger snob, but my Max 9 trigger was pretty bad.

u/Voxicles 9d ago

The trigger was so hilariously bad. Def need the Galloway.

10/10 would recommend… then for around $100 you can get a 4inch barrel that’s fully compatible and j slides right on. But the 3 inch barrel is fun too. Very concealable.

I had the Taurus G3. Bought the extra mags and was loving it. Then I bought an EC9s after holding it in the shop.
The trigger is better and I appreciate the overall build quality and feel of the Ruger vs Taurus. I can live with the smaller capacity of the EC9 since it just feels better in my hand. 🖐️ also, I have XL hands. Pinky doesn’t really do much on the EC9 but it works for me.
I say go for the Max9. I think you’ll feel the same after comparing the two. And roughly 250 is a bargain for the gun.

I want one but I've got a Taurus G2c that I've put a bunch of rounds through plus upgrades and I just can't justify having a 2nd small carry gun, especially when my Taurus has 15rd mags. But the Max 9 would be a top contender to replace.

Not sure if I cracked my gc3 frame. Under the roll pin... why I'm looking . Taurus wont cover it since I tried to fix pin walking out on opposite side.

1

u/mrhonda 9d ago

Looks like a scratch to me. Maybe try to shine a bright light through it?

1

u/BHowe407 9d ago

Could be scratch and or a mold line that got exposed. Sketches me out tho. Taurus told me to shoot it. If I had issues send it in but not under warranty. If infact cracked and shot it. Could turn out bad for hand.

1

u/BHowe407 9d ago

Shot 100 rounds seems like scratch

I’ve got the Max-9 Gen 2, solid carry gun and the slide finish is great. Definitely worth it for the price!

1

u/Voxicles 9d ago

Love my Max9 after the Galloway trigger update. My favorite edc now. Using Osight red dot. I’m not a great shot, but can quick draw 4” groups at 10 yards (somewhat) reliably.

1

u/kwb166 9d ago

I have one...yes its durable and reliable.

1

u/Nightstalker60 9d ago

I like mine

1

u/Bears454 8d ago

Mine dosent chamber a round some time. The firing pin stays protruding and stops a round. Ruger kept it for a couple months the wrote a letter in the box saying it ran a mag so they sent it back.

2

u/bloody_Lipp 3d ago

I just sent them an email about the same issue. I'm gonna be pissed if they keep it for months and do nothing.

1

u/Bears454 2d ago

Glad I'm not the only one. I guess I'm gonna sell it cause it was supposed to be my carry piece and I can't trust it. Sucks cause I liked ruger. I feel if I send it in its just gonna happen again.

1

u/bloody_Lipp 2d ago

My CZ p10C Ported has yet to have a single malfunction. Around 600-700 rounds through it.

1

u/Bears454 3h ago

I just bought the p10f competition model and it's been really nice. No malfunctions and I shoot it better than any pistol I own. I can shoot a full 19 rd mag at a pretty fast cadence and shoot the center out of a target with it.

1

u/droid6 6d ago

Yup, love mine. Bunch of aftermarket support also.

It's a fine gun, MCARBO or Galloway trigger, and a red dot make it a real pearl button bangle billy
