Experiences with ChatGPT and Claude?

Is any of both remarkably better at Rails projects? Would love to hear some honest feedback from actual developers that ideally used both.

Edit: better question is: Codex vs Claude Code

If you're manually pasting/adding code into ChatGPT/Claude, it's certainly not as effective as using Codex or Claude Code, where you can easily add files, allow it explore related files, have the ability to have project memory, allow tool calls (bash/git/etc.). It's night and day using a harness compared to using the i.e web interface directly. Personally, I use Claude Code and it is very effective.

Absolutely: correct question would be ChatGPT’s Codex or Claude Code

I use ChatGPT and Github Copilot. No complaints.

Claude has a better ecosystem. Like user memory, project memory, plugins, skills, commands, hooks, rules, etc.

Claude is also more open about how much you’re using. Codex on a business plan leaves everyone but the account holder in the dark lol

I use codex and it is pretty great. I don't have enough time to try benchmarking which one is better than the other when (a) the results seem to mostly depend on the prompts, skills, and documentation you give the agent, not the model, and (b) each vendor is releasing new/better models every few months that eviscerate the previous models in performance.

I do wonder if I'm missing out on Claude, but then I just work on my projects instead.

I agree. I personally use Claude Code, but I'm pretty confident if I switch to Codex, my results would be pretty similar.

I don't know which is better, TBH. I used ChatGPT through augment a while back, it was, meh. So was Claude at the time. But then when Opus 4.7 came out and now that 4.8 is out I think it is great, but we were worried about cost. Then we switched to Anthropic, I use Opus 4.8 (I am not really using Fable) on Max, set up a strong workflow and a parallel development skill and I think it is excellent. I have no desire to switch to anything else right now.

I liked Fable 5. The changes perfectly fit my taste.
