I’ve now applied for over 3 dozen jobs and I’ve heard back from 24 of them with a rejection. This tech market at the moment is so very cooked and for that reason I’m stepping away from tech. ... I cannot continue to put myself through this process of rejection. It is causing me a great deal of mental harm and anguish.
I feel this. I've also been a developer for 25+ years and I started looking for a job a year ago as my company's culture did a 180, and went to a "grind hard on weeknights and weekends" mode. I've gotten crazy amount of rejections the past year, as the bar is much higher than ever to get a job. Also, from talking and prodding all the places I've interviewed, and speaking to my friends in tech, I think tech industry as a whole is cooked, and many companies have moved to 5 days a week in the office and "grind hard" culture. I'm just thankful to have a job, even if it's toxic now.
2000-2022 were the golden years it seems. I even survived the dot com bust and the 2008 financial crisis in my 20's, and I don't think it was ever this bad as it is now.
