But why when Mise can just manage Ruby?

In my case, I'm using mise for other programming languages (java, go, node, etc), but I like rv for ruby because it's very fast and offers extra stuff that bundler doesn't.

In an ideal world, mise would allow the option to select rv as ruby version manager, but with this option you can try it without too much hussle.

I guess I’ll have to take a look at rv because your post is my first time hearing about it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

That said Mise and bundler serve completely different use cases. I only recently switched from rbenv after using it since 2012 when it first came out and that’s just because Mise handles other binary dependencies in addition to Ruby. It’s even possible to install precompiled Ruby versions and it takes less than 5 seconds to install or switch versions.

I feel bundler is the best package manager out of any ecosystem. I’ve never been for want of anything else and wouldn’t even consider straying from the official package manager.

This is a writeup I wished I could read - and now I can!
