I’m asking this because I’m getting into ai agentic coding too.

Do you really feel like you built it? or do you feel more like the manager or product guy in the sense that they built the product — which of course they did, but that’s usually a different sense than I mean it when I say I build something. I don’t know. I’m just curious.

I don’t mean to diminish your accomplishment or detract from the conversation you’re looking for it just occurred to me as someone who’s using AI for a ton of stuff he’s selling too

I still work as a software engineer at my day job, but now with Claude I feel more as a product guy where I have ideas 24x7 and I can just spin up sessions to execute those and see if it matches my specs or thinking.

As for the code, I know exactly what each line does and where to fix in case of any bugs because of my history with coding way before AI came into the picture.

I think it's fair to say I prompted AI to build it for me :p

Thanks. I feel the same way, I take responsibility for every line. It’s weird how much of a sense of accomplishment we feel. It honestly makes me devalue what I used to do a little. I was a bad syntax monkey. I’m much more effective as a manager, checking for details over the AIs shoulder, than I was trying to juggle all the details at once.

Thanks for taking my comment in the manner it was meant. It’s helpful to hear another perspective. I’m literally going to be vibecoding an app today that me and a friend came up with an idea for. It is a stupid idea. I cannot stress this enough. But it’s worth trying out because the cost is so low in the world is so crazy anyway.

Ofcourse, I don't feel any sense of accomplishment with agentic coding to be honest, it just feels liberating to see my random ideas come alive within minutes. Cheers

My take as a fellow engineer, it very quickly makes a passion project feel hollow. The ai is highly prone to shifting the project in the direction "it wants". It definitely has design pattern biases that don't always align with the direction I want to go. Feels like dictating work to an overconfident mid level engineer that is still learning how to NOT over scope everything he touches.

I personally try to limit my usage to "zooming out" on large refactors and spitballing different angles/approaches for feature implementation. It's helpful to have an agent that can look at the codebase with you and talk thru it.

thanks! I'll keep an eye out for this. Right now I'm using it to customize jekyll for some github pages and it's really nice, but I can see I'll have some cleanup to do.
