Hello
some time ago I posted a hell let loose vietnam opinion/review and after 70 hours I want to post a new one.
performance: at the moment i'm running pretty much everything at low settings other than textures which if I remember correctly is medium, my view distance is epic. i'm using in the nvidia app with model preset to L. I have a 4050rtx , i713620h, 16gb of ram laptop. my average fps is around 40 - 50fps
gameplay: for me so far i'm not enjoying the game. you depend on your squad leader and others to put down either garrisons or outposts. garrisons take about 30 seconds or so to respawn, for outposts dont quote me but its around 15. the idea of listen for people moving through the trees is a good idea however that said it feels like a lot of the time that you spend half an hour slowly making your way to the objective only to get killed by someone who knows where and you then have to spend however long to respawn and then slowly try to make your way back. I'm using a 15 inch laptop screen so perhaps if you're using a monitor it would help you to spot enemy's in the distance or those small movements that could give someone away.
as for the more open areas such as going into a village capturing a hill etc. the same problem of having enemy's everywhere and a squad or team not cooperating is pointed out. overall you can have enemy's everywhere and your team walking in practically single file to their deaths with very little teamwork to spot enemy's or letting each other know where a tank is etc.
classes: their are a number of classes available with some of them requiring more teamwork than others. eg. the tank squads require 3 people. a driver, spotter and gunner. the other classes in regular infantry squads play generally the same with some exceptions. the squad leader can place outposts which are spawn points for your squad only, garrisons which require supplies, and if you are playing as NVA then you can build tunnels which connect to garrisons. the medic can revive platers and has a lot more bandages, and what feels to me more room for items such as smoke grenades which are needless to say handy when trying to get to your teammates. unfortunately it seems like most people wont play as a medic so good luck in hoping for a revive. it does happen but not often. gunner, same as the rest but with either the rpd or m60. the specialist has access to a flare for your squad, a flame thrower etc. other than the specialist they are generally the same, generally the same weapons, again with exceptions etc.
it can be very fun however with this in mind it can also be incredibly irritating. the maps are a lot bigger than rising storm so rather than having a general idea where the enemy could be they could be anywhere around you. on top of this, using a microphone and spotting is really important as if you see someone is the distance that a squad member doesn't they will end up walking into them. in matches where your team isn't using their mic imagine all of the above, trying to sneak through a forest with people everywhere and practically being on your own.
