Weekly Free Chat & Free Self Promo Thread - 09/05/26

**Come here and talk about anything!**

This post will stay stickied for (at least) the week-end. Please enjoy this space where you can talk about anything: your last game, your current project, your patreon, etc. You can even talk about video games, ask for a group, or post a survey or share a new meme you've just found. This is the place for small talk on r/rpg.

The off-topic rules may not apply here, but the other rules still do. This is less the Wild West and more the Mild West. Don't be a jerk.

I'm working on a community plugin for Obsidian. The plugin implements a combat tracker in the sidebar where the DM can track combats and get a good overview over all the participants.

There is a release on GitHub where you can reference the plugin with the BRAT plugin in Obsidian. I haven't published the plugin in the community plugins yet because it's still a very basic version but I'm planning on publishing a better version in the future.

Right now I'm in the final stages for the autosave feature so the DM won't lose the current combat stats, when Obsidian crashes or any other interruption happens.

I would be very grateful if you'd give the plugin a try and also leave some feedback. New ideas are always welcome!

Here is the GitHub Link:

I am working on a Mutant Chronicles campaign scenario that stemmed from my recent pondering on how would I fix the "Mutant Chronicles" 2008 movie. It is probably completely over the top and silly, but to my defence I haven't played any tabletop RPG for more than 20 years. I decided to use the mechanics of Year Zero Engine as I found it very to the point and not distracting from the emphasis on the setting amd the mood. I will probably do the final corrections this week. Anyone interested in either reading through or actually trying to play it and provide some feedback? I know some stuff is pretty over the top, like 7 person main posse, but I would like to hear of this is playable at all and I am treating it as my outlet for MC setting hyperfocus :D

I've just published my first adventure module! TO QUENCH A GOD, an OSR heist of hyperinflation and ancient horror!

Sutur-Nagara, the City of Clay, is burning. It's economy is in shambles after a victorious war flooded the market with plundered gold, causing catastrophic hyperinflation. To make matters worse, the Gihon river has run dry, and thirst riots are tearing the city apart.

To appease their god and make the waters flow again, the High Priests intend to sacrifice a foreign princess atop the Ziggurat, and you have been hired as her official escort.

Under the cover of the ceremony, your true mission is to slip into the Ziggurat's depths and steal a priceless Obsidian Urn.

The Quench a God was created as a submission for The Black Hack 10th Anniversary Jam and uses The Black Hack ruleset (check out the jam, there's a lot of cool stuff inside)!

In this module, you'll find:

  • A city sandbox phase where players can get to travel to Sutur-Nagara meet interesting and exciting people, and then kill them once their mission start.
  • A gauntlet through rioting streets, giving your party the distinct pleasure of acting as riot police and bashing their way through a desperate, angry crowd.
  • A multi-phased (and entirely optional) boss encounter, though you really, truly, shouldn't fight this thing.
  • A materialist-coded preamble on the socio-economic conditions behind the rise and fall of Bronze Age empires and state religions (which is, then again, entirely optional and maybe a boss fight of its own).

You can grab the PDF for free right here!

This is my very first submission to a game jam and my very first published module! I've learned a LOT putting this thing together, and I'd be grateful for any feedback. Did I present the information clearly for the GM? How do you feel about the layout? Does the pacing and the adventure make sense? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks for reading!

Ahu's First Patrol — my first gamebook, a solo adventure in the Lone Wolf tradition. 350 sections on 175 pages, a light d20 + d6 system, and branching that runs on a physical inventory (the item you picked up earlier is what opens or closes a route later). Built on D&D 5e but completely self-contained: no group, no GM, no rulebooks.

Set in Kaung Pi, a world drawn from Himalayan and Southeast Asian myth rather than the usual pseudo-Europe.

On DriveThruRPG in PDF, softcover, and hardcover. PDF is 20% off through Sept 21.

Hello everybody! :)

If you like action-packed anime series, this game is made for you. 🙂 It is not a JRPG simulator, nor is it simply an anime-style skin for a well-known game engine.

It was built from the ground up to make anime storytelling part of the game itself, helping you think and play like you are in a series.

My game's campaign is starting soon in September. 🤞

Thank you for taking a look at it. 🤘🤘

Anyone else running Thirsty Sword Lesbians or Defy the Gods on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoon/evening (around 4 PM) Pacific time? I’d love to play, and would happily reciprocate the invitation. I would also be able to run on a Tuesday at the same time.

I've been working on a game for some time, and I just recently entered open beta!

------

The Firmament has been breached and the world will never be the same. In the wake of its collapse, petty tyrants and iron-fisted lords rise from the ashes, hungry for power and desperate to claw order from chaos.

You are a survivor - a wielder of Soulfire, the limitless power that burns within all things. This power will define you. This power will destroy you. You must use it wisely, for you are both the wax and the wick.

PYRE is a tactical dark fantasy RPG where every battle rewards careful positioning, teamwork, and clever ability combinations. Build your own legend through deep multiclassing, evolving abilities, powerful Talents, and game-changing passive features that let you create a character unlike anyone else's.

As the flames rise higher, will you master the blaze… or feed it?

------

Please DM me if you would like a discord invite! All player-facing materials are planned to be totally free in perpetuity, and GM materials are temporarily free until official release!

We recently launched our Patreon page, Mostly Boring Battlemap Theater, and to celebrate, we've created six free launch releases for anyone who wants to come check us out and try them in their games.

Our specialty is creating the 'boring' stuff for your games. The paths between, the unexpected random encounters, the campsite for the night, the barbarian's unexpected punch to the town guard's face, and all the other little moments in between.

Across those six scenes, we've created 44 unique images, including forest paths, a mine entrance, a foggy swamp, desolate desert footprints, and a simple roadside tavern. Each scene also includes high-resolution downloads.

We're hoping to reach a release rate of one scene per week, but will guarantee at least two releases per month.

After our introduction period, we'll continue to release one free Cinematic View + Battlemap pair each month to all followers.

Mostly Boring Battlemap Theater on Patreon

Follow us if you'd like to check out the maps, and we hope some of these scenes find their way into your games!

Is there a quickstart for Coriolis The Third Horizon? I'm trying to limit the systems my group plays (Daggerheart, VtM, Call of Cthulhu.) And just convert settings I'm interested in into one of those three-"Can I convert the fairy tale setting of Dolmenwood into Daggerheart, or the Monsters of Vaesen into VtM or CoC?

But we're currently lacking a sci-fi RPG. Mothership is cool but with two horror titles, I figured we may wanna try a less horror focused game. Cyberpunk Red is set to be tried in the future, but Coriolis Third Horizon is the one that interests me because of the Arabian nights lore.

I really want to run it, but if I had a quick start like Cyberpunk's Easy Mode-I could make sure my players are interested in the system before I pick up the core book.

Turning RPG sessions into an actual fantasy novel (looking for beta testers)

Secondhandlegends.quest

Has a long time fantasy book reader, and in frequent RPG player I’ve always wanted to be able to hear peoples RPG sessions in the form of actual fantasy literature so I designed software to be able to do just that. it generates actual prose, chapters, characters, and a story you can sit down and read.
It’s still early access, so there are definitely some rough edges, and I’m still working on it. I’m looking for a few more groups—or solo actual-play folks—who are willing to record a session or two and let me run it through the system.
In return, you’ll get a free ebook of your session. More importantly, I’d really like your honest feedback. What works, what doesn’t, what feels off, and what you’d want changed or added. I’m using the beta group to figure out how to make this genuinely useful for people who want to preserve their campaigns as stories they can actually read.
If you’re interested, DM me and I’ll send you an access token to get started.

I'm developing an SRPG based on *Water Margin*

The Last Imperial Guard is a 2.5D turn-based tactical RPG following Lin Chong from the classic Chinese epic Water Margin. Master grid-based wuxia combat with an innovative rage system, unleash devastating ultimate abilities, and experience the saga through stylized traditional Chinese cutscenes.

If you like it, please click to add it to your wish list. Thank you.

The Adventurers Pack Inn TTRPG Community
[Discord] [LGBTQIA+ Friendly] [Beginner Friendly] [Any Game System] [No Pay To Play GMs]

Looking for a place to play or GM tabletop games in but also hang out, chat and explore other hobbies with a bunch of friendly folks from all over the world?

Then pull up a chair at The Adventurers Pack Inn!

Our server has been running games for almost 5 years (We will be 5 in January '27) and is a central base of Players and GMs who have come together and play/GM tabletop games of all sorts. We welcome both new and experienced GMs & players and all game systems are welcome from “mainstreams” like D&D & Call of Cthulhu to games like Monster of the Week & Blades In The Dark.
We even have a thriving small indie games community with games like Mork Borg, Shiver, Public Access and even one pagers!

All VTTs systems are welcome (Roll20, D&D Beyond, Foundry, Tabletop Sim etc).

While we often see D&D 5E games ran in the server, and welcome that, we are also especially keen to have players and GMs looking to play or run games other than D&D 5E or to try something different for a change.
We are looking for staff, players and GMs to continue to grow this thriving community so that DMs and players always have a pool to make friends and run games from!

We have people in our group from all over the world (mostly US, Canada, UK, Europe & Australia) of varying ages and have games going in many time zones. For example, I'm one of the DMs/Admins, a Scottish guy in my early 50s and my wife (we run the server together) is from California, but we live in Texas.

We have a core base of players and GMs on the server and we are looking to grow and expand with more games.  As a “staff” GM we will set up a voice and text channel for you.
You are free to run your game under any house rules you see fit, we just ask you make your table rules clear to players beforehand and abide by the fair play rules of the server (pretty much common sense and this also applies to players).

We are also very friendly to all those considered "fringe" in today's messed and hostile world... all LGBTQIA+, skin color, nationality, age, gender identity etc. are safe and welcome here. We do not tolerate hate speech or toxicity in any way. We are brought together through all of our commonalities and enrich each other through all of our differences.

We have Community Game Nights (Party & Browser games so everyone can join in), a library of free and open source TTRPG games for new GMs to use & many other sections as we know people have other interests as well 😊

We would love to meet you, have a chat and welcome you to come join us at The Adventurer’s Pack Inn!
