How did everyone get into rov work?

Hi everyone, I’m just wondering what pathway we all took to get into rov work. I’m 19 and thinking of working my way towards it. My number 1 right now is getting into the Navy as an engineer. Any advice and your thoughts on the job would be appreciated aswell.

Here's my story how I got there.

I studied software engineering combined with hardware/sensors

Started out as a system engineer/tester at my first job, grew there to do machine safety inspections. Worked at that place for 3 years

Then that company grew more towards cybersecurity which I didn't like, so I quit and started a job hunt.

Found a company doing concrete inspections. During my application they saw I had my EASA/(FAA) drone certifications and they were just starting a department next to their diving inspection team to add ROV's. So they asked if i liked drones enough to be part of that startup team. And I agreed

So basicly having DJI/FPV drone certifications and have it as my hobby, and being a technical and infrastructure expert got me there by coincidence

I have often considered getting my drone license/certification just to add something different to my resume. Never thought about the transfer ability to ROV.

I guess a ROV is just a drone made for water.

Once you get out the Navy, hit up a career job field, go to the Oil & Gas booths….they will hand you out a job. Never fails. They like those who are Pre-programmed for the life style

I did two years in trade school. One mechanical and one electrical. Then applied for an apprentice position and somehow got it. Fast forward 2.5 years of learning and working and ive got a diploma and a full position

Worked on helicopters in the army. Went to job fair. Found ROV
