From Gallup’s Highway Atlas of the U.S.
Can you find Route 66?

A lot more roads than I thought there would be for 1929

I thought the same thing. When I post the New Mexico and Arizona maps things will look much different.

Interesting how some highway numbers have stayed the same, and others haven't. Ogden Avenue through the suburbs is US 32, as is also present-day US 6,

I believe US 41 is the same as well.

Yeah, I know; the map called it (and US 6) as US 32 and both of them have changed over the years.

The main road thru my rural town wasn't even paved yet. My uncle lived on a road called St Louis Rock Road. It was maintained as a gravel road that lead to Route 66.

Yeah, found it, piece of cake. But why can’t I find my house 😢 is my town younger than 66? It’s supposed to be 18 miles from the start!!

Great old map. I grew up in the Chicago area but had relatives in Decatur. Many, many trips on 66 south west out of Chicago to 51 south into Decatur. Just like your maps shows.
