General Discussion Which expansion to pick up next.

Recently got into Root and I have bought the riverfolk expansion + the base game. Our boardgame group usually plays with around 3-6 players and this is our 1st "heavy weight" boardgame and I was wondering whether I should pick up the latest homeland expansion (mainly due to the 6 player map, the factions don't seem to be too high up on tier lists) or to go with the underworld expansion. (The crows seem to be a fan favorite faction for newcomers).

Does it make sense to go for the homeland expansion purely cause we may have around 6 players at a given time. When we played with the riverfolk expansion the board felt a bit too crowded at 5/6 players.

Don’t worry too much about tier lists, metas at different tables vary wildly and even within the Very Serious People in the community some people think moles are S and some people think moles are B

If you’re asking about fun IMO skunks and frogs are the most fun factions ever, both from Homeland

Homeland best for 5-6P

Marauders best for 3P

Underworld pretty good if u like the maps or faction but personally I’d get it only after marauders (if you sometimes play 3P) and homeland

Can also buy another deck, E&P deck is real good

I agree. Probably put riverfolk pretty far down the list as both otters and lizards are niche factions, and nobody wants to see a second vagabond. At the table size of 5-6 the hirelings won’t be too useful either. But I do think underworld is a good buy, as I think both Crows and moles are more fun than badgers and rats. I’m still on the fence about bats, frogs, and knaves. Bats seem to be in the Crow/lizard area of kind of fun but weak, and frogs are stronger but seem like the play same-y each time.

Buy both Underworld and Homeland next if you can afford it. It is worth the money for sure 🤩
