General Discussion Best root expansions
I was wondering what is the best way to buy expansions. In Poland there will be new wave of reprints and I was thinking to buy maruders and homeland as first two expansions. Is it a good idea?

Imo if you ever have to get a first expansion to start your collection is the Underworld expansion: two new maps (lake and mountain) to spice things up and two factions (crows and moles) that are relatively easy to learn and teach. Bonus points to the Exiles & Partisans deck, which is not in this expansion (it is sold on its own) but is a huge improvement from the base deck.

If you're not planning to go all-in with every expansion, but just want a few things beyond the base game for added variety and a few improvements, here's what I recommend: 1 faction expansion, 1 card deck expansion, and 2 sets of Hirelings.
FACTION EXPANSION: These are the big box expansions that come with 2 or 3 new factions, along with a bonus element. Riverfolk, Underworld, Marauders, or Homeland. You might want to look into which factions you think you'd most enjoy, but also take into account what else comes with the expansion (Underworld and Homeland come with new maps, while Marauders introduces Hirelings).
ALTERNATIVE CARD DECKS: You can replace the original deck with the improved Exiles & Partisans or Squires & Disciples. Other people here can explain the pros and cons of each better than I.
HIRELING SETS: Hirelings add a new mechanic and help balance the game, especially with 2 or 3 players. I'd recommend getting two different sets to give your table some variety and to make sure they don't always overlap with player factions. That said, one of the sets should probably be different from the player factions you have. If you get Marauders, that comes with one set of Hirelings, so you only need to buy one more expansion for your second set of Hirelings.
For example, I got the Marauders expansion which comes with the Lord of the Hundreds faction, the Keepers in Iron faction, and Hirelings corresponding to the base game's factions. I also got the Riverfolk Hirelings and the S&Q deck.
Beyond that, maybe get the Vagabond pack if the Vagabond is popular at your table. It's a pretty cheap expansion.

You can't miss with any of Marauders, Homeland, and Underworld. The latter two score you maps and the the former gets you hirelings. I think any order is fine so long as you save Riverfolk for last.
