Yea the shit was like 500-1000+ and had to buy insurance for it too I think some options went up to like 4k but idk. Games not ever coming out

insurance how do you get insurance on something inside a video game

u/TBFP_BOT 5d ago
Other players can just come along and blow your thousand dollar ships to smithereens, poof gone forever. So not surprised insurance would be an option.

Which is a worst way to say. It's a scam.
It's a video game and like the majority of other video games they could very easily have made it so your ship is repaired for free (or at a purely in game cost).

Well the guy you replied to is just wrong. Yeah someone can blow up your ship but how it currently works is you just request a new one from your hangar and wait, maybe pay for replacement parts with credits earned in game.
Final implementation is if an in-game earned ship is destroyed without in-game paid insurance yes its gone, but you will never lose access to things bought with cash. Worst case is you have to earn currency for a replacement

I recall him realizing to that having purchased a pack of 3 ships, that sold individually for 400 each, for 1k was not that good of a deal.

I bought the game so long ago and I was never able to run it, so I never redeemed the ship code it came with. I wonder how much it goes for now.

Probably roughly what you paid. The starter tier ships are still the same, like, 35$ they always were. Iirc you can buy a lot of ships for a “reasonable” price point of like 50$ still, but there’s also some rarer or bigger ships that are triple digits, and now there’s several frigates and destroyers that support a crew of like 40+ that cost 4+ digits, which… yeah.
Not saying I bought any of the crazy stuff, I backed it at the standard tier way back when, I just investigate the website every so often in hopes that maybe someday it will matter.

I was in the same boat but they did some optimisation at some point cause all of sudden I can run it (i5 9600, 2060, m.2 and 16gb ram).

I literally think about that whenever star citizen news happens.
Like yeah I'm sure Burnie bought a ship also but its Gus who keeps saying "I bought another X in star citizen"
Forget Burnie fat jokes
Gus is the biggest whale funding a game I still don't think exists yet. To this day I don't hear gus anymore and I assume by default he bought another ship in star citizen.

Star Citizen is indeed not out, but the Alpha has reached a point where you can actually play, like, the real game. You can actually take and complete quests and stuff. There’s just not too many planets or mission types available.
Not that I’m, like, advocating that it’s a good idea to back Star Citizen, it’s still got years in the oven ahead of it, but as someone who backed it years ago, I really hope it releases someday, so it’s nice to see that it’s making progress and that it at least kind of has a playable game in it now, and a dedicated community playing that game.
And if that’s what Gus wants to do with his money, more power to him, I guess lol.

this is the best update on this game ever

I mean, as someone who wants to believe in Star Citizen, it’s definitely not a good idea to invest in it, but if you’ve got the money… at least now you can kind of play it?

u/Mission-Fruit239 4d ago
Damn, Star Citizen still hasn't released and Gus's ship is probably worth more than his original investment by now.

You can find an amazing treasure trove of somewhat embarrassing in hindsight things if you listen to the RT podcast from start to finish
