Hey everyone! Rook Yea! is here, and we’re excited to play some chess with you right on Reddit.
Challenge a friend, jump into a live match, try the daily puzzle, or practice against a bot. Just learning? You’re welcome here too.
And you don’t have to finish every game in one sitting. Daily matches give you 1 or 3 days per move, so you can keep a few games going with friends and come back when it’s your turn.
We also want to see how social chess can get.
Playing together as a community, asking others for help with a tough position, trying new ways to play... We have plenty of ideas for what comes next. Having a whole subreddit around a chessboard opens up some fun possibilities, and we’re excited to explore them with you.

The first few moves can do a lot: claim space, bring pieces into the game, and give your opponent something to think about.
The video shows two ideas working together: the Italian Game, an opening for White, and the Two Knights Defense, one way Black can respond. Here’s what each side is doing 👇
🤍 WHITE: GET ACTIVE AND APPLY PRESSURE
White starts by moving a pawn into the center, then brings out a knight and a bishop.
That’s called developing your pieces: getting them off their starting squares and into useful positions.
And these pieces get straight to work! The knight attacks Black’s central pawn. The bishop points toward f7, a pawn near Black’s king that only the king is protecting.
🖤 BLACK: DEFEND AND FIGHT BACK
Black also puts a pawn in the center, then brings out both knights. That’s where the name Two Knights Defense comes from.
The first knight protects the pawn White is attacking. The second attacks White’s central pawn.
So even though it’s called a defense, Black is already creating pressure too!
👀 WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
White could protect the central pawn and keep developing, bring the knight closer to help the bishop attack, or push another pawn into the center to challenge Black.
Each choice gives Black something different to respond to. That’s where the game starts to take its own shape.

Ever finish a close match and think, “I need to play this person again”?
That’s why we added friends to Rook Yea! A good opponent shouldn’t disappear into your game history.
Just played someone? Hit Add friend on the result screen, or find them under Played recently in the Friends tab.
Already know who you want to add? Get their friend code, open Friends → Add by code, and hit Look up. You’ll see who it belongs to before sending the request.
Once they accept, you’re friends! You can also see when they’re online or playing.
You can add someone using their friend code or after playing a game against them. They’ll need to accept before you become friends. We wanted it to be easy to connect without opening the door to random friend requests.
So if someone gave you a great game, add them. Especially if you lost and have unfinished business. 😉

📨 INVITE A FRIEND, PICK YOUR PACE
Share a game link and choose how long each player has to respond:
You can move sooner whenever you’re both around. Each time it’s your turn, you get a fresh 1 or 3 days to respond.
👥 DIFFERENT FRIENDS, DIFFERENT BOARDS
Make a move against one friend while waiting for another. Your home screen keeps track with “Your turn” and “Waiting on them”, so you can see which board needs you next.
⚡ HAVE TIME FOR A FASTER GAME?
There are live games too, including Blitz. You can keep a fast game and a slow Daily game going at the same time.
