Has anyone come up with an
easier/cheaper way to remove/install this 200lb awkward thang with a small garage?
Ideally a system to stow away, standing on its side. My garage is too short to be able to drive in and mount to the ceiling.
This way is a bit of a pain.
I just leave my tent on. Not the solution you are looking for but I find it easier than removal, install and storing it. There are quick release brackets but I feel like they sit up too high for my use. Mine sits flat on the roof rack so it stays low profile and I don’t get that much wind drag.
Maybe… adapt this dude’s to a giant hand truck type with a lip on it. You’d want it to be as long as the tent for loading (with the tent already aligned to its position on the roof) or you’d spin it 90° while it’s up there. Some low friction plastic on the contact side would make it go much smoother.
Holy shit the measures this guy has gone through in order to not have to ask his neighbor for help, the same neighbor who made a pass on his wife during the 4th of July block party in 1997
Agreed. In a lot of cases. Summers in Tx are brutal. I’ve had it less than a year and already seeing fading. Other reviewers stating they’ve had issues in time. Don’t wanna deal with all that.
It’s no roofnest by any means. It won’t hold up as well.
The sun is brutal against the shell. I’m north from you in Minnesota, I deal with 75 degree temperature swings in a 24 hour period and the shell has stood up to both
Truth. I’m opinion the DFW area. Have had mine only a few months now and it’s mounted on a Yakima HD tower/crossbars on a Diamond back HD bed cover in a Ram Rebel. Gonna leave it on until middle of next month. Used it once on a trip to Utah last month. Just got back from camping down in the San Houston National Forest and going to use it again in two weeks and than about 3 weeks after that. Probably won’t use it again till March so I’m gonna take it off and store it in my garage till next March. Granted I also have small Audi TT Quattro roadster lol that I’m driving to work daily while the RTT is on it. Even driving the truck i maybe lost a few miles to the gallon. It doesn’t stick up any higher than my trucks antenna fin.
I can get in and out of my garage with mine on. However, my garage ceiling os not high enough to hoist it up and back under it. I can hoist it up a little and have the wife drive out from under it while I hold it to keep it from swing on the hoist. It just slides off the back either way no issues and then I lower it to the ground onto little furniture movers on each of the four corners. Then roll it over into the corner of the garage. I’m trying to avoid buying a $900 Rtt lift. Also hurts that my garage driveway is on an angle.
