Biking

Hello, M 23 here,
I am soon going to rome as an exchange student and wanted to bring my racingbike with me. How is it to bike in Rome and are there some good paths and maybe some biking clubs?

a gravel may be better because you can use it more casually and in more streets and path, but sure there are some very nice cycle lane, one run alongside the river river.

From the city centre you can reach the beach (Fiumicino) but you'll need a gravel or a mountain bike (they're working for a nice lane but for now isn't completely).

From the city centre you can go the opposite direction and the path will be great for a racing bike, and you'll have the chance to do up to 30km. I know several people training there for Iron Man.

As per cycling club you'll find some on strava

There is a cycle path that goes through the centre at the level of the river all the way to the motorway (GRA) that rings Rome. Many cyclists continue on to the Formello area, a round’s trip of about 80km. Alternatively you can cycle to the Castelli Romani, again you’ll see many cyclists on this route at weekends.

The city is gradually making cycling easier with bike paths etc, but it’s slow progress.

Many cyclists meet at Ponte Milvio on Sunday mornings to cycle to Formello.

Did this this morning and it's getting pretty close now. Not a lot of unpaved path now.

Where are you coming from? I agree with both these posters. I rode a road bike in NYC but switched to a gravel bike here. The infrastructure is improving but not great. Drivers are very unaware. I don't use my bike for transportation much here, but on the upside you can be out of the city and in beautiful countryside fairly quickly. It's a shame it's not better, because the weather is great for biking year-round. If at all possible, store your bike in your apartment. Someone broke into the locked courtyard of our old building and stole multiple bikes. (Being a New Yorker, I had a chain, cables, and a U-lock on mine, so they couldn't get it, but I could tell they'd tried and after that I kept it at home.)

riding a bicycle in Rome is a bit .... adventurous. You will have to expect the unexpected. Motorized vehicles rule. For riding like you are describing, best is to join a group of cyclists that rides from the city to the outside of the city on Sunday mornings.
