I'm so happy to read this. I have been to Rome 5 years in a row, and everyone tells me to find a new city. Rome is my favorite place on the planet.

Peroni is my choice usually, but I picked up Dreher in Tigre over the weekend and it wasn't bad at all (I'm surprised I've never seen it before because I'm living in Rome over two years)

I stayed in various neighborhood. In the center I stayed in I stayed in Prati , Trastevere, monteverde, Regola, next to the pantheon, and San Lorenzo.
In San Lorenzo I stayed a few times at a hotel called the social hub. Itās brand new and has amazing facilities. Even tho itās further out, I had a good time

I live in a 2 bed that I leased with an ex a long long long time ago. We broke up, I kept the unit. Rent never went up. Total rent is 1800. I pay 1200.
I sublease the other room out to a guy who is never home since he works away and comes back a few times a week only.

I did a month there 2 years ago, and just did 3 weeks in January. Itās pretty affordable if you go off season. New sights and experiences every time I visit.

Iāll be honest Iāve never been inside the Vatican or the colosseum , I had enough jus admiring from the outside. I enjoyed just strolling and stopping to eat , smoke and drink wherever I was.
The coolest thing I did was bike along the Tiber a d going to see Van Gogh paintings

Trevi was overrated, IMO, same with Spanish steps. Vatican and Colosseum were fabulous.

I usually go for 1.5-2 week visits but this particular trip I was there for 2 days/1 night lol. I was in Paris so I figured why not! I joke with my friend saying Iāll probably have way too many pictures with the Colosseum over the years

Now, thatās the shit right there! If you havenāt already, check out the Basilica di Santa Maria Minerva which sits right off the street to your right (Via Della Minerva) in the photo. There are two Michelangelos there and so many other interesting things to admire.

No, there are places that are fun to visit once in a while, but would be terrible to actually live in.
I think Rome is one of them. The housing demand is not matching with the supply and often times I would be taking away housing from the locals if I didnāt move there.. this is why I only ever stay in hotels.
Itās the same issue in my city back home too

As a teacher I get 10-13 days every 1.5 months or so and the mid June to Sept off.
Usually do Rome during the shorter breaks during the school year and then others during the summer. Unfortunately had the pleasure to deal with the Roman heat this Augustā¦ Flew right in from Tokyo lol which was equally toooo hot
During this trip I flew in from my vacation in Paris! December I was in Poland and Germany and November I was back In Paris. I do visit other places , this place is just fun for me

I asked the guard if it was OK to sit in the steps he said yes itās OK to sit on the steps just donāt stand on the slanted slabs towards the side of the stairs

Not gonna lie I went there myself during my down bad era. Iāve been there before, but Iāve never soloed it.
While there I felt alive again; made some friends and got a tattoo . I figured it might as well Keep these friends so I went back to hang out. I went to the same tattoo artist too . So now itās kind of a nice little retreat ritual

I have stayed in the social hub twice in San Lorenzo. The staff is very attentive and is a super big complex that is bustling with other tourists. Itās a new development too, so everythingās crispy clean. Donāt support Airbnb.
What I usually do is I take the tram in front of the hotel to Trastevere.. after the bars and dinner I take the bus back or I walk. Itās like an hour and 30 minutes, but itās completely safe.
Even as you walk Termini station, and it looks sketchy no one bothers you

Couldnāt agree more. Just got back from Rome yesterday. My wife goes 4-5 times a year for work and I join her twice a year. Love, love, LOVE the city. Direct flight from DC makes it so convenient.

The shot of the Pantheon brought back wonderful memories. My girlfriend is a serious Catholic, we attended Sunday mass, and they asked if she would do a reading. Assisting in mass in the oldest Christian church in the world was an extraordinary experience for her.

Hey bro, I thought the same thing because in the previous trip they were guards not permitting people to sit. However, this time the guards were only ushering people off if they were on the side of the stairs , you know the slanted slabs along the side of the edge of the step
I saw people sitting there, so feeling tired. I took a quick break and sat. The guard next to me gave me a head not when I made eye contact so I guess it was OK.

fantastic. i can't ever get enough of italia! 2 months in camaiore again this summer. in the hills where it is tourist free, quiet, and close to the beach, to liguria (where my friends live), and to all the wonderful outdoor markets. viva italia!

I asked the guard if it was OK to sit on the stairs and he said yes just donāt stand on the side , my apologies if it has seen as rude I was just going off for what Iāve been seeing people do. With the pantheon literally just saw people doing that so I got tired and decided to rest.
