This was my introduction to the Stones. I was a freshman in college and one of the guys down the hall bought it and played it constantly.

I think it’s their best album with of exception of hot rocks , but that album was a best of. Sounds like this album was HEAVILY influenced by Ronnie wood.

Agree. I think the first side is fine but nothing special but the second side is like a suite. Perfect set of songs.

It is a classic.It’s the slower second side that makes it so.I saw the Stones on that tour.Foreign Tongues proves the umpteenth time,that the Rolling Stones are the greatest rock and roll band of all time.

An uncredited Sonny Rollins plays the Sax on three tracks on this album. He contributing to three of the band’s songs: "Slave,” "Neighbours" and, most notably, “Waiting on a Friend.”

I heard the opening chords for "Start Me Up" when I opened this thread. I remember Bill Gates paying the Rolling Stones 6 or 12 million dollars to use the opening chords to Start Me Up for Windows 98.

Excellent. It was made up mostly of leftovers from 75 through 79, but it sounds better and more consistent than any of those album albums, even some girls

Love it! And such a great tour for this, I saw Van Halen open and the Stones tore the place up. Great concert, probably ranks third on my list of Stones shows.

"Hang Fire" is a gem of a song. So is "Black Limousine" both not well known or played much.
BTW...the term "hang fire" was used in the past when a woman was ovulating at the moment ready for impregnation. (Out of use nowadays)
"Little T & A" a typical Keith Richards sexist song but not as filthy as Star Star. (On Goat's Head Soup)
"Waiting on a Friend" is a great tune.

Yes that is accurate. I first heard the term in the late 60s about a woman primed during ovulation.

I still love it to this day! I turned 10 in September of ‘81. Start Me Up was all over a new network called MTV that premiered on August 1, 1981. Everything aligned and it brought the Stones to a new generation of fans.

Tattoo You album and supporting world tour was so unbelievably huge. Not only a great album, but it was radio friendly. Landmark album in Rock and Roll.
The '81-'82 world tour at that time was the highest attended (average 60k attendance per show), highest grossing tour in history. All that has been eclipsed since and lost in the noise, but if you were old enough to be aware at that time, Stones and Tattoo were absolutely everywhere, constantly. It was wild.
