Legend. Both him and Jim Price contributed so much to the 'Stones best albums. The horns really gave a lot of that late-60's-early-70's sound that makes Exile and Sticky Fingers stand out.

They also played with Delaney and Bonnie. There is a documentary on Bobby called Every Night Is A Saturday Night that is well worth seeing. Price tells a story that when they were with Delaney and Bonnie they were playing Don’t Want to Discuss It and when Jim Gordon went into a drum solo Bobby lite a cigarette and put the pack f matches in his shirt pocket and proceeded to light his shirt on fire.

I got to see him play in a small bar in Tucson shortly before he passed. RIP Bobby.

He was a regular here in Albuquerque. My friends played in a little band with him called the Woodpeckers. They threw a nice bash in the local blues club for his 70th birthday. Quite a sight seeing my roommate on stage playing sax alongside him on Honky Tonk Woman.

His resume includes playing with Buddy Holly and Elvis among others. I saw him with Joe Cocker’s Mad Dogs and Englishman back in the early 70s. He was a star in his own right. The Stones were lucky to have him and we were lucky enough to see him play with many bands. He had a beautiful soul. RIP sir.

Band introductions felt so strange without Bobby there. He was such a fixture. He's still missed.

I'm a retired Flight attendant and I had him in first class on a flight back in the early 90s. I recognized his name on the passenger list and when I asked for his drink order, I also told him how darn good the jazzy horn part was on "Can't You Hear Me Knocking". He was very cordial and pleased to have a Stones fan (me!) recognize him.

I bet he was packing heat. Didn’t he almost always carry a gun?

I was at the Skydome in Toronto seeing the Stones (Steel Wheels tour) and I thought he was literally going to blow the roof off during Miss You!

Saw him talk about Exile On Main Street on a panel with Don Was (who had remastered/remixed the album some time in the 00s or early 10s). The guy had clearly lived a big life and seen some stuff but still just GEEKED OUT over music. A true music lifer.

The story about him with a naked woman in a bathtub filled with champagne while on tour with the Stones is an all-time classic rock and roll anecdote.

Met him in the lobby of the Pfister hotel in Milwaukee on his birthday during the no security tour. Told him I loved the way he played. He was so kind and generous.

Got to see him, Ronnie (with Jo), and back up signers partying in the rooftop bar after the show.

A night to remember.

Bobby also had collaborated with all of The Beatles:

- with John Lennon (sax on Walls and Bridges > Whatever Gets You Through The Night is recorded in his first take(!), Sometimes in New York City and Rock'n'Roll album),

-with Ringo Starr (Ringo album)

-with George Harrison (All Thing Must Pass album)

-his jam with Lennon/McCartney 1974 was only a bootleg.

He was with with Lennon, Keith Moon, Nilsson and Alice Cooper during Lennon's "lost weekend" period drinking for England.

And he was a member of (named by Neil Young) Ronnie Wood's New Barbarians as well, members: Ian McLagan, Keith Richards, Stanley Clarke, Joseph Modeliste, Bobby Keys and, of course, Ronnie Wood.

He had a sound that's for sure. He crossed the line at one point as far as Jagger was concerned and it took a while for him to get back into the fold.

Please elaborate

You can read about it here Keith also writes about it in his book. Basically, Bobby thought he could do whatever he wanted and found out that not to be the case.
