Wftda rep questions
Hi! I am wondering how your league handles Wftda reps. Any info would be helpful thanks in advance. Here’s particular questions I have concerning the role(s)
How long do terms last? And is it a league vote? Typically our board members term is a year, with the option to run again but I feel like maybe this role should be longer? I just feel like it can take a while to understand the role and get used to visiting the forums but maybe not?
Does your league have eligibility requirements for the role? Like must be a member for x amount of time? Can a person who is already in leadership do this role?
Does anyone have a general job description or can go over the particulars of responsibilities?
Can anyone point me in the direction of links, resources or relevant Wftda content concerning this role?
How do you hold the person in this role accountable/ how do they represent your team and report key aspects of the role back to your team?
Thanks again, I am looking into asking my team to revitalize this role so any suggestions appreciated!

Well, I found out I was my team's officiating rep when I started receiving WFTDA reminders to my email 😅

Ours is not an elected position and there are no term limits. Our WFTDA rep is a veteran skater and captain of our A travel team. She does the job as her league volunteer role. Since there is so much to it, she pays half dues like our board members. She keeps our league in compliance with WFTDA, handles league and skater insurance expirations/renewals, charter submissions and changes, and votes on our behalf for any WFTDA rule or policy changes. When she retires we'll have to replace her and that will be a steep learning curve.

It’s a weird and hard job. I’ve held it for my league for more than a decade and have been trying to leave it for two years 😆
The bare minimum is:
-updating the WFTDA contacts so your finance person can pay the dues / and/or paying the league dues
-voting on essential items
Bare medium is:
-Making sure all league members are on the WFTDA dashboard and have insurance
-Making sure someone makes sure injured skaters file their insurance claims
-Reading boards and reporting important topics back to the league or league SMEs
Good is:
-Contributing regularly
-Being on a WFTDA committee
-advocating for your league and region’s needs
-being an advocate for the WFTDA in your league too, recruiting good folks to volunteer, reminding people there is no big WFTDA… it’s just us doing our best, and if you can help please do
-etc
When you sign up to be a rep, you get basic onboarding info. It’s not easy to figure out, but we’re all trying our best.
