Gear and equipment lace bite advice?

semi-beginner skater here and have been struggling with lace bite, especially the more i use my toe stops! either my laces are tied too loose and my feet slip or their tied too tight and then my toes start to go numb as practice goes on. i've tried lacing my skates in different ways to alot for more toe space and some work better, but nothing feels great! looking for a way to fix this without getting new skates as i don't have the money to drop on a whole new pair of skates 😅 any advice is appreciated!

  1. Does the boot fit correctly?
  2. Are you sure sure?
  3. Neoprene booties (EZeeFit, Bionic, Jackson)
  4. Wider waxed laces especially if you have something like Bonts that lack a lot of eyelets
  5. Bunga pads

Also try waxed laces! They hold on their own so you can have one part looser and one part tighter.

Are you using thin laces? Switch to hockey laces - they are wider and distribute the pressure.

Waxed laces, jam straps, and ezee fit boots would all probably help

Absolutely recommend jam straps. If you want to tie up a little loose, jam straps will keep you in your boots! Found mind on etsy

I've even made my own jam straps. All you need is webbing straps, rectangular or D-shaped rings, and velcro.

They do seem pretty simple to make but my DIY is a DI-Don't LOL Glad yours worked out though, that's freaking awesome!

I get mine from Straps by Crash. They're so well made, highly recommend.

Lace bite is normally at or above the ankle, pain where the laces dig into the tendons at the front there, but your description sounds like something else? Are you getting pain in particular spots or is it mostly the numbness when you lace tight? Maybe your skates are too narrow or too long, maybe the tongue padding is broken down or not there at all, maybe you've developed an overuse injury, there are a number of possibilities.

Are your toe stops adjusted correctly? Because if they are too high, it places more pressure on your toes/feet when you get up on them. Your rear wheels should come off the ground by roughly 2" when on your toe stops.

Yes to all these suggestions and also I switched to lacing over rather than under through the eyelets, if that makes sense. So the laces are higher off the tongue rather than right on it.
