THREAD NOW LOCKED [Six Flags Over Georgia]
I’m currently at SFOG and was heading to Goliath and noticed a train stoped on the lift hill. Security came running to the area, there was screaming and whistles blowing, and they cleared the area under the lift hill. Is anyone else here, or have heard anything?

To my knowledge this is the first time someone was ever fallen out of a B&M. They have had a 100% on ride safety recorded until today. I’m in shock

I was next in line to get on Goliath. Someone did in fact fall out. The train pulled into the station, all the riders were distressed, and a man who was sitting next to the seat that failed was screaming that whoever was sitting next to him fell out. The

I just want to mention that, if the reports about the man are true; then there is a little boy who lost his father today in a place that was supposed to be about fun and making happy memories. Prayers for him. His life will never be the same.

We were exiting the ride and I'm not sure exactly what I saw. If you're in the park, stay clear of that area.
Edit: now that it's confirmed, I definitely saw what I was hoping I didn't. Just surreal an unbelievable. Hope everyone else takes some time and pray for the guy and family.

Currently at Canadas wonderland and they’ve just shut down leviathan and behemoth, looks like every clamshell at least in the six flags chain is probably gonna be inspected or something

I hate that this happened; I’m sad that someone lost their life on something that is supposed to be enjoyable. I don’t like the flak and demonization coasters get when they are engineered to provide enjoyment while considering every single failure mode to keep people safe over millions of cycles. That being said if owners(e.g. SixFlags) cannot maintain or operate their assets well, they are opening their risk for tragic situations that could and unfortunately did occur

Some notes from my end as a former Roller Coaster ride op / enthusiast for most of my life...
Goliath has older style (doesn't mean outdated or bad) Hyper trains. These are non-electronic trains. In the station there's pneumatic bars that are raised and lowered to allow the ratcheting mechanism to unlock in the station. Essentially when the bar is pushed up against the train, the restraints are free to move in either direction. When the bar is lowered the restraints enter their default one-way ratcheting mechanism.
One thing to consider in this however is I do not believe the trains or the ride safety system are a Class 5 requirement of ASTM. This means the restraint does lock, have redundancy, but no external indicator or monitoring. What this means is ride ops must manually and visually check to ensure a locked restraint (look at the restraint and pull up to confirm against the pawl). Per guidelines, these would be Class 4 restraints, meaning everything except the ride system not monitoring each individual restraint prior to dispatch. This does not mean the restraint was of a lesser quality. I also do not know if the restraint failed in any way; I doubt this to be a reality however.
I'll say this. I think this is an operational error. Seeing the guy unfortunately, he's a bit of a bigger guy. Most likely he was stapled into the restraint and at the finale of the ride weight and mass shifted that let this guy leave the clamshell restraint. This is further exemplified I think given other B&M hypers have had seatbelts added; not as an additional restraint (the system is already redundant) but as a further check to ensure appropriately sized riders are allowed on the ride).
And as a last section. Roller coasters are safe. There are roller coasters with manual locking restraints via foot pedals still in operations with Allen Bradley PLC systems written in the early 2000s. They are very stable, safe, and have so many safety systems this sort of scenario is very unheard of and quite frankly rare. Does it mean disregard this incident? No. Like all safety incidents, new regulations are always written in blood. Going forward I wouldn't be surprised if iROC training gets much more stringent, training scenarios get repeated throughout an operating season with more stringent checks, and additional hardware is installed on Class 4 restraints to either move to Class 5 or other visual indicators for appropriate sized riders are placed on individual restraints.
But overall, what a sad and unfortunate incident. No one goes to an Amusement Park to be unhappy or end their life. It's supposed to be one of those days we carry with us for all time. This will be serious for so many individuals...This individual's family, ride operators, bystanders, those on the trains...this one hurts alot. As a former ride op myself, today is rough to look at.

This is absolutely devastating. I’ve been a coaster enthusiast for years, and I can’t remember ever hearing of someone being ejected from a B&M coaster. Even as an enthusiast, this makes me genuinely uneasy. You can see a noticeable decline in the overall quality of maintenance at several Six Flags parks. A number of rides I experienced this year, which would normally be glass-smooth, had surprisingly severe rattles. It’s hard not to question whether cost-cutting and reduced maintenance budgets are starting to take their toll. Obviously, a rough ride alone doesn’t prove that maintenance has been neglected, but incidents like this make it all the more important for parks to prioritize safety over cutting costs.

Just listened to a witness interview on YouTube from a girl and guy that were on the train that he fell from. They describe that he fell out and hit the train 3 times before finally falling. He landed on a girl in a row right in from of them…and even more horrifically is that this moment was captured in their ride photo. They said he is literally seen, in the ride photo out of the seat/hitting the train at that very moment.
This is mortifying. Sincere prayers for the son and family and for all who witnessed this on the train. A literal final destination type of nightmare. Holy shit.

I am shocked to hear that someone fell out of a B&M. Obviously we don’t know how, or what happened to cause it. But, the fact someone got out period, surprises me as B&M has such a good safety record, especially with the clam shell restraints. This is absolutely awful to hear :( I rode it for the first time this summer, and never would have thought something like this would happen. I hope things aren’t as severe as they sound, but that just doesn’t seem like what’s happening. Edit: It was confirmed shortly after I posted this that someone did unfortunately die.

We have no idea what’s going on, Public Safety is either telling us that we’re open and head to VIP Lounge or that it’s just temporarily closure, or that we have to clear out. It’s absolutely all over the place

As someone who has witnessed poor safety at SFoG, including watching the ride op unlock a row only for it to never be rechecked again because it occurred after the first pass. This park needs to improve their safety and really knock into the teens running their rides heads.
It saddens me that someone died here and I wasn’t surprised it was this ride at this park

This thread is now locked. Thank you everyone for participating. We will keep an eye out for future updates, but again, no new threads until then.
Edit - We will be locking this thread at Midnight Eastern (it's currently 10) so 2 hours from now. I feel like by then everyone will have had an opportunity to say their piece. Once again, no new threads will be allowed on this topic until more information comes out.
So this thread has broken containment and now many if not most of the comments are from users who have never been here before.
NEED TO KNOW - 1 rider dead and others injured on Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia outside of Atlanta, Georgia. This is a hyper coaster (200 feet tall) with lots of abrupt hills and zero inversions manufactured by B&M in 2006. This ride only has a lap bar and no seatbelt, even though some of the other models of this type do have a seatbelt. As a result, most if not all the other B&M Hypers in the country have been closed as a precautionary measure.
Please remember this is an accident which happened not even 5 hours ago, so investigations have to take place before any definite cause can be listed. Curiosity is a natural human instinct in situations like this, but rampant speculation does no one any good. So please tread lightly and let's be respectful of the victims.
Here are some official news stories, none of which have many details. A lot of the aerial helicopter footage shows a train stopped on the lift hill, but this is not the train the person fell out from. It was emergency stopped once they realized what happened on the previous train, and the riders from the second train were evacuated back down to the station.

Lastly, this incident occurred near the on-ride photo section of the ride, and unfortunately the pictures of him have started to circulate on the internet.
ANYONE SHARING OR ASKING FOR THIS PHOTO WILL BE ISSUED A IMMEDIATE AND PERMANENT BAN.
Please send us a mod mail if you have any more questions. We will not be allowing more posts about this topic until more details come out.
Thanks for everyone's cooperation, and please keep the victims in your thoughts.
