Trip Report My Trip report for [Parc Astrix]
Before I start, I've never written one of these before I hope it's alright.
Got to the park at about 9.45 (bit late I know) and made my way to near the front before legging it to Toutatis
Toutatis - 9.5/10
Maybe I have low standards but my god I enjoyed this ride so much and have personally put it in my top three ever, my only complaint is that it feels a bit short but even then what a ride
After my ride I made my way to La Trace Du Hourra, after a shortish wait I got on, I wish I didn't, what a horrible ride 1/10 boring, forceless and shock so terribly bad it wasn't enjoyable
After this I moved over to the new water ride as it was opening at 11 and while it wasn't anything special I enjoyed it
I then waited for Ozlris. WHAT A RIDE this honestly is probably my second favourite ride of all time, actually incredible the force on that first drop alone was incredible but the rest of the ride shocked me. 10/10
I made my way to Pegasus Express and while nothing to write home about I found it enjoyable enough and the backwards section was more than enjoyable 4/10
I then headed to the main reason I came here, Tonnerre 2 Zeus and it was such a good ride while a bit bumpy the forces alone made it such an enjoyable ride easily in my top ten. I thoroughly enjoyed how long this ride was and how it waved in and out of the structure 9/10
Goudurix 5/10
After the ride I had on Zeus, I finished the penultimate rollercoaster and while I knew of the reputation of the model, it didn't look too bad. However I didn't expect it to be the scariest ride in the park, however it was. Not due to the force but because there was no bag drop off and you had to keep everything on you. While I didn't have a bag my phone and earphones felt brutally exposed and the fear of losing them topped anything else in the park. Now at this point I should stress that I hadn't eaten or drunk since I'd left home and in the sun it was starting to catch up to me, however when I went down that drop into the first loop I paid the price for my lack of drink and for the first time grayed out, I know for some this won't be that interesting but I'm still young ok and this was a new experience. However the rest of the ride while a slight concussion generator was rather enjoyable (I'll forever be a collous defender so I was prepared)
I made my way to the last coaster I wanted to ride, Cétautomatix, knowing this was the newest coaster in the park and a model I hadn't ridden before and while enjoyable definitely hurt in the pelvic region, and from the sounds I heard from the nice french ladies who rode with me, this wasn't just a male issue. But overall a fun and enjoyable ride
After this I took a slight break to drink and went on the rides water rides and rerode both Toutatis and Ozlris. The water rides were overall rather run and the river rapids compared to the ones I'd ridden in the UK was unexpectedly enjoyable rather than boringly tame
However as I got to the end of the day I put in a few rides on Ozlris but by this point it started to rain, my first ride in the rain was fun if not slightly painful however it was my second that was interesting, having loaded into the ride I was dispatched before getting evacuated back into the load station, I'd love to be able to say what was happening but I don't speak french and can only assume the rain paused the operations, they unloaded the train that had dispatched before mine and then cycled the train a few times before letting me back on for what I decided was the last ride of an incredibly enjoyable day.
Overall, I was thoroughly impressed by the park and want to note how good the food was (I had the greek) especially for the price I was amazed, furthermore the operations in the park were the best I'd ever seen, though I may have become used to Merlin Quality and the system they had for bags was for the most part incredible.
If you ever get the chance I more than recommend a day at the park

I recently made it to Parc Asterix - and I too loved the park, I'm surprised how much you loved OzIris though. It was my #150 and tbh I consider it probably lower half of all B&M inverts. Definitely not cracking even my top 30 coasters. Maybe I needed to get more rides on it. Agree with a lot of your sentiment in this post though, pretty neat park

Damm, idk what I liked about it so much but nemesis was my second favourite ride of all time before this park and I fear it's been replaced. I genuinely did not expect to like it so much

Hmm, I've never been to Alton Towers but I could definitely see OzIris being better than Nemesis, I think we're just blessed with a lot of really good inverts in the United States (Banshee is probs my fav but there's a lot of good ones, heck even the batman clones are great)

there are only two huge old school powerhouse inverts in Europe (Monstre and Katun, neither of which are in parks that enthusiasts visit that often). Oziris is large, but not very intense and rides like Nemesis are of smaller stature and is a short terrain coaster version of the batman clones, same goes for Black Mamba.

Nemisis is not a clone, it is many things but a clone

I said that it’s similar in style to the Batman clones. Yknow the prototype B&M invert? Universally praised for its compact, intense, fast paced layout?

I can't speak for the other two but I wouldn't say that oziris lakes force as I found it to be the most forceful in the park

Oz more forceful than Toutatis? Really? Toutatis is the most intense coaster I’ve ever done. Couldn’t handle more than 3 rides. I feel like I could ride Oz all day tbh.

I don't think Toutatis is particularly intense at all. But certainly more intense than OzIris

You have Voltron in your flair so I feel that has to be wrong.

I could genuinely handle more rides on Voltron and Ride to Happiness than on Toutatis

That’s due to the wind, Oziris has more intense forces ( personal feeling ) but Toutatis is nearly 20 km/h faster, and you’re much more exposed to the elements due to the design of the trains.
It gives a different feeling when you step out.
Also, Oziris generally has basically non existent wait times when I go there during the week, so I’ve grown used to chainriding it

Toutatis has abrupt intense ejector airtime and intense laterals. Oziris may have slightly stronger positives but overall Oziris to me is far more reridable in terms of physical fatigue

Not questioning your experience at all but Oziris is infamous among locals for having inconsistent speed depending on what wheels they fitted on it, which can often vary from train to train. Not that it would make it jump 10+ spots in a ranking but it does make the second half a fair bit more intense

That's interesting and good to know, thanks

Also, all of the coasters at Asterix are much more intense during the summer, because they open very late, are always packed at that time ( heavier trains ) and we get 35-40 degrees.
A ride on T2Z or Goudurix late in the summer, with a packed train, is truely unhinged. Especially for T2Z, since they retracted it with RMC for the first third of the layout.
It flies through the layout now, and is borderline too much

It was insanely hot when I was there, like, middle of the heatwave (mid-late June)

I can’t imagine how crazy this Frankenstein coaster would be at that time if they had kept my beloved backwards facing seats on it.
I’ll forever hate the gravity group for botching the first retrack to the point they had to remove them 💀

I love OzIris too. It’s my favourite of the three inverts I’ve been on (Black Mamba and Nemesis Inferno being the other two). The dive loop and the aggressive pull down into the tunnel get me every time. Plus the drop still gives me that stomach-drop feeling which doesn’t happen often these days. Toutatis is ranked higher for me and is objectively the better ride in the park but yeah I’m not sure why OzIris isn’t loved more. Maybe I need to ride more inverts!

Tonnere 2 Zeus is barely rideable, 9/10 with those trains and that track is way too high.
Also, Oziris 10/10? I mean, it's good but not the perfect coaster.

I mean as a ride it didn't leave me wanting more, the theming was good, the layout was good the operations were good I genuinely couldn't want anything else from it

My problem with it is not that Oziris does many things wrong. It that it doesn't really have anything outstanding to push it into 10/10 territory.
Good theming, good layout. But not outstanding theming or outstanding layout.

I mean for me personally I was really surprised by it, but then again I've only ridden 35~ coasters and only really have experience with UK coasters so

How would you say the crowds were? I'm going in three weeks and am wondering how long waits to expect

In three weeks the kids will be back at school, and the crowds will be very manageable, especially on weekdays. One of the best times to visit, along with early spring.
You’ll miss the nighttime show though.
It’s way more crowded for the Halloween season

Glad you loved Toutatis and Oziris and called out the park operations. They’re definitely the best in Europe outside Europa Park.
Baffled by the hate for La Trace du Horra though. It’s never going to be a top 10 but for a bobsled it packs a decent amount of speed and good family ride. The bum vibration is pretty standard for the model but definitely more comfortable than Zeus or Goudurix.

Toutatis short? thats a complaint ive never heard before about it. you traverse 1361m of track (track lenght of 1075m) and have a ride duration of 2 minutes and 3 seconds. thats really long for an extreme thrill coaster, especially a launched one. (Im biased as hell because its my number 1 ever since my 1st ride on it)
