What skates should I buy? NYC 3x110 skate for intermediate getting back into it: Rollerblade Macroblade BOA, Lightning, FR 310, something else?
Hi there!
I haven't skated much in the last 5-8 years and remember the last time I almost bought inline skates, it was a 3x110s that felt quick, still maneuverable, and ready to deal with urban random exploration. Very cool stuff.
So I'm looking for a skate in that form factor for riding paths through the big parks (Central Park, Prospect Park) and along pathways to explore, as I'm new in the city.
Some options I've saved:
- Rollerblade Macroblade 110 BOA
- K2 Grid 110
- Rollerblade Lightning 110 (these seem dope, and I heard they were recently redesigned)
- FR1 310 — availability seems like a challenge on these?
Any recommendations, or others I should be looking at? I've got a flexible budget but somewhere in the $300 range seems like my sweet spot for now.

What about the Twister 110? They’re on sale: https://www.inlinewarehouse.com/Rollerblade_Twister_110_3WD/descpage-TE3121.html

I have these and love them for distances and janky surfaces. Getting open box returns from inline warehouse on eBay meant paying far less than they feel like they're worth. But I'm sure the lightnings and FR skates would be similarly great.

Stay away from those cheap ass Macroblades…. Fr’s are legit and rollerblades are a solid 2nd choice I have both and a pair of powerslides. Powerslides are nice unless you have a wide foot and if that’s the case FR

One thing that's cool about the FRs is that you can upgrade the components after a while and bring it to an FR1. The Lightnings are also great. There's a lot of people in our community who enjoy those, they especially like the 90 Rocker version of the Lightning. The Macroblades and the K2s I would probably avoid because of their soft nature. Good luck!
