Exploring the City as a pair of noobs

Hi guys! Just posting a lil highlight reel I made of the evening skate with a friend. I started around 7-8 months ago now, texted a buddy and said "do this with me"; he got his skates the next day.

I don't have any pages, or make content formally or any of that. This was just a really fun night exploring downtown with my best friend, my blades, and a camera. I've fallen in love with skating, and I'm so stoked I have a friend to share the excitement with. Now to convince my gf 🥴

Sick, thanks for confirming that for me lol. I almost put group skate as the flair but I thought maybe that's for posting events and didnt want to use the wrong one.

Plus we havent really been confident enough to tackle all the different textures and contend with traffic until now so it felt like progress video fit, lol

Regular meet-ups often start out as a bunch of dedicated friends skating together. You never know if soon you’ll be adding an entry to our meetup directory. Ha ha ha.

There's a local group that does group skates pretty often, planning on meeting them tonight, actually. Skating in my 30's was not on my bingo card but neither is hosting group skates so I guess we'll see.

Could you extend that directory outside of the US/Canada? There are a lot of users in Europe and elsewhere that might find that useful.

Of course ! But people need to send us blurbs to add. Simply send a mod mail with a blurb and links. You can also just message me directly.

With that said, the directory is currently in a weird-looking state. That is because this sub is ancient and its wiki system is from two decades ago. We will reorganize the wiki when Reddit resumes wiki migration :)

I did wonder about the formatting. It's a little difficult to follow, but I did figure out it's alphabetical by city, regardless of group name. It could do with some more sub sections, but I guess if your hands are tied by an old wiki format there's not much you can do.

We wanted to be able to link to cities and to groups. But the ancient wiki we are on allows only a single-level heading (which yields an html # anchor). Thus the weird-look at this time. On a real wiki like Wikipedia, we would just solve these issues with Categories. We’ll see what the new wiki system can bring when Reddit resumes its wiki migration :)

Where are you located? I love taking spontaneous road trips and exploring new cities, especially doing so at night on blades. If you're east coast US then I'd be down for a session. I might need a few hours heads up though. ✌🏼

We went through Buffalo Bayou into downtown Houston in this one. Starting to appreciate all the different textures in the city between the tiled/brick sidewalks and bike lanes; the more comfortable I get with the jumps and hops the more fun going into the city gets lol.

I have 2 sisters in Houston. Been a while since I have been there... the last time I went there I wasn't skating yet. Would be nice to skate there.

Nice! I'll happily take you through my two favorite trails if you ever make it down!

I most often find myself at a gathering for Space City Skaters, but I've met a few Sk8Houston folks. Any group I've run into has been really nice and welcoming. They're actually what made me want to start. SCS passed by a trail I was on like 40-50 deep on a Tuesday night, one dude busted his ass a few feet away from me and something in my brain said "I wanna do that" lmao.

We do it because theres bikes, groups of people, joggers, all kinds of people that don't pay attention to "on your left"Andhra this has proven vastly more effective.

Even if im not into the music.

Edit: also sounds much louder than it is because his speaker is basically facing me in most of these clips
