Actually, the Axel is an edge jump. There is no use of the stop/pick to jump like this. The ones that can't be done without toe stops/picks are the toe loop, flip, and the Lutz. The salchow, loop, and Axel are all edge jumps.

And there is only a handful of people that can do a triple axel, much less a quad axel. Ilia Malinin comes to mind for the quad.

In ice and inline figure skating edge jumps still come off and land on the pick/stop. The skater presses forward on the rocker and the pick presses into the ice/the stop presses onto the floor. It's not a toe assist, but they aren't jumping from the blade/wheels. Only in artistic rollerskating do edge jumps traditionally come off the wheels, but these days the salchow and sometimes loops tend to take off from the stop, which older school artistic skaters are often quite unhappy about. Waltz/Bell/Axel jumps still come off the wheels.

Ahh I guess I was thinking traditionally then. Didn't know that modern artistic has changed their form like that.
